On our trip to Austin, we stopped by The Pub for some bar food, drinks, and college football—had a great time. So much so that my husband and I went back the next day to watch the Chargers game. Unfortunately, the experience was very different. The bartender refused to switch even one TV to the game, despite the place not being busy and several TVs in the back not being used. He wouldn’t even discuss it and just walked away. Very disappointing and rude.

Fantastic, outstanding 10/10. Bar staff here is top notch. I came to visit austin for the first time and just kept coming back to this place because of the staff. Great draft beer selection but..... I have to say I love how welcoming friendly the bartenders were. Thanks for the delightful time. Everyone should stop by and say hi.

Great little pub with a local feel tucked into the heart of downtown. It's got indoor and outdoor seating, rustic atmosphere, friendly staff, and a good selection of drinks. They actually have a cider on tap too that's delicious. Prices are comparable, plus a happy hour, parking is fairly easy and accessible, and they now have 2 foosball tables which really increases the soccer-friendly vibe. Always happy to come and play a few rounds of table soccer and watch some games. No other bar like it in Austin.

From the outside, the eponymous The Pub, looks somewhat generic-reformed warehouse. Inside, however, layout is spacious but authentic, televisions generous (a FIFA replay and golf tutorial when I visited), but muted so as to not disturb.
I came for the shepherd's pie in mind and was not disappointed. I enjoyed it heartily. The pie arrived quickly in a cast iron pan. The toasted brown cheddar cheese looked delicious, mash was a bit watery but not distracting, the meat and peas stew was hearty - boosted by stout beer, heavy on tomato and buttery from the hamburger meat. The bartender was a standout of good service - a six-foot oak of a man, boomy and exceedingly friendly. I paired it with a cider on-tap, not sure of the brand - it was smooth and paired well but a trifle shallow-flavored. I preferred the pie from Foxy's by a small margin - deeper flavor, but on any given day I'd choose The Pub for atmosphere and service - to me the difference isn't worth a five-block walk.
