We stop here every time we’re in, or driving through Austin, for the stuffed avocado. This time we ordered to go and ate in the car because we had our dog and it was too hot for us and her to sit on the patio. We arrived around 11:20a and were able to order quickly. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. We prefer the traditional style with with suiza sauce and the food was tasty as usual! It was a bit spicier than we remembered but also we weren’t getting refilled drinks in our car lol so that was probably the difference. We did miss having the chips and salsa we would’ve had if we sat down, but all in all, wonderful as always and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

On 4/10 my family had dinner at Trudy’s South Star. Our waitress was Maddie who explained to us that it was her first night to be solo on the floor. We were patient through her missteps. (She said Lovestreet was a Pale Ale for example and didn’t clarify what type of beans we wanted and came back to ask.)The evening was getting late, so I gave my card to my husband to pay and took my daughter home.My husband split the bill up between our cards with our total at $60. He tipped Maddie $20 cash and left.As he was walking to the car he remembered he hadn’t voided my receipt so he went back in to do so. When he came upon my receipt my signature had been FORGED and a $7 tip added. He approached Maddie and she said she made a “mistake” and they called the manager over to the computer where the tip had already been entered. The manager had to take the tip off. When my husband gets home he tells me this and I immediately called to speak to the manager. The manager, Mae, told me she had to locate the receipt and would call me back.I received a call back on voicemail that stated they could not find the forged receipt. Duh. It was likely tossed.I have lived in south Austin for nearly 15 years. I have eaten at Trudy’s South Star more times than I can count. Work dinners, birthday parties, many memories made here. It used to be wonderful. The time before this night, I stood at the host stand for 10 minutes without being acknowledged and sat. The time before this I called a reservation for a birthday group and upon arrival at reservation time they did not have my information saved.Gave them another try and now my receipt is forged and tip added on my behalf. This place has gone downhill without a doubt.Guaranteed you absolutely lost a customer and I am beyond disappointed that Maddie did this.Do not go here to eat and if you do, do not let her serve you! I will never recommend this restaurant and will let everyone know this happened.

The atmosphere and decor is perfect for this great Tex-Mex restaurant. Prices are good for all the food you received. I got the two Spicy Beef Tacos, which were perfectly seasoned. Not too spicy. The servers were delightful and professional. I look forward to going again next time I am in Austin.

Trudys was once the star of South Austin. No more. After several poor experiences we gave it another chance tonight. Drinks and appetizers were really great, service was ok, fajitas resembled luke warm boot leather.Super disappointed. With better management they could be a diamond, for now they are the rough.

I love the atmosphere. Tuesday, my family decided to go here for lunch and toast my uncle after his service. It was last minute, and a group of 10-12 people. Apparently, they were not only short-staffed. They did their best. However, several members of our group did not receive their meals. My food was great, but my husband was starving. Good thing he can skip a meal. Trudy's, tighten up.

The food was horrible. How do you not do nachos? I dont even think that was fajita meat. The guacamole was old as you can see in the photo. The lettuce and tomato were wilted. The table and booth were dirty. As we were leaving, the mgr just watched us walked out, not a thank you, have a good night, nothing.

I know some of the reviews where about service but ours was great. Jaime was our server and she was great. Kind and attentive, we’d seek her out again. The place had been upgraded since our last visit…maybe pre COVID? It’s brighter and no carpet! We’ll be back.Kid-friendliness: Kids menu came with crayons and portions where enough for our 9 year old
