A wonderful success.
Every time we go, what happens is this:
We make our initial order. Halfway through eating it, we know we will want more, so we make a secondary order. Halfway through that one, we again realize we want just a last bit more of this or that (or anything at all, just MORE!) and so we put in our *third* order. That's how tasty (Word to the wise: don't sleep on the potato croquette, $2.75. Each diner needs their own, and I need two.).
One does grow tired of this surfeit of overly hip brick and mortars, every place trying to outdo the last in atmospheric proximity to a southern California hotspot. Chilly waiters, navel-gazing menus and stratospheric prices.
In contrast, Uroko is a simple walk up, but the food is as good as any of those places, and the atmosphere is nice enough for a casual date - without resorting to a dusty-dine at one of Austin's fecund food trailer parks. It is super fresh, super delicious, super affordable and accessible Japanese food. It's one of my top favorite places in town.
Vegetarian options: Potato croquettes, miso soup, chili garlic edamame, tofu salad, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, Veg Harumaki, avocado hand roll, pickle hand roll, flower & veg hand roll

Great place and service. They had a very creative and unique omakase! I highly recommend it. The whole experience was pretty quick though very enjoyable.
Some of the omakase had this foam on top I hadn't seen anywhere else which was fantastic. And oh my... The beef omakase was a treat.

Sake and sushi omakase courses were well thought out and uniquely varied without being pretentious.

Omakase was incredible! The chef and his assistant were so knowledgeable and friendly. They also did a great job of accommodating gluten free for my mom.

I go here often for lunch because it’s close to my work. The fish is fresh, and I like it a lot. The potato croquette is good too.
Although the hand rolls can feel like there isn’t enough fish at the end sometimes. The Hama toro is my favorite.
The service sucks though, the cashier was overwhelmed because the ordering system was not printing the orders, she was on the phone with customer care for over 30 mins all in the while not taking orders. I get it, but Is it that hard to write the orders down? I mean that’s what we had to do just a couple years ago.
Nonetheless, not a deal breaker. Just know that you might have to wait too long if there are a lot of orders ahead of you.

Wanted a quick take out option so we decided to stop by Uroko and give it a chance since the reviews were looking pretty good. After trying it, I can see why everyone loves this spot!
I started off with a Yuzu Sake Slushy and this was the perfect drink for the hot summer- cold, refreshing, and citrusy. As for the food, we got a couple different rolls: Salmon, Sake toro, Hama toro, Spicy tuna, etc.
Everything tated really solid here- my personal favorite was the Hama toro (the crispy quinoa was a perfect addition).
I thought I’d be left hungry after 2 but to be honest, they are pretty filling which was a pleasant surprise.
Overall, solid spot for some handrolls and I’m looking forward to trying other items on their menu!

I’ve come to really appreciate hand rolls because of this place. It’s become a special treat for me that includes three rolls and some sake. Plus, I take the sake glass home and drink wine out of it. This is definitely one of my favorite sushi places in Austin and with affordability and convenience factored in, it’s the best. Thanks Oroko.
