Vaquero Taquero is a lively, laid-back cantina with great music and a welcoming vibe. But after 3–4 visits for Instagram-promoted drink specials—like $2 beers and $5 vodka cocktails—we found the deals are never honored.
Despite arriving during the times listed (6–8PM, 8–11PM), staff told us the drink special pricing is only during their happy hour. The images they posted suggest the deals apply *during* their Cumbia night, not a vague happy hour that’s never clearly defined.
There have been at least 2-3 people in the bar line who also ask about the drink special, get shot down, and express their disappointment each time. It’s frustrating and feels misleading.
Vaquero, you’ve built something great—don’t risk losing client trust over unclear promotions. Their drinks are already reasonably priced ($7–$10), but advertising $2–$5 specials and not delivering damages credibility and looks shady as hell. Consider bringing on a social media manager to post accurate, clearly detailed Instagram posts.
Bottom line: If you're coming for event-night drink specials, just expect to pay full price. 👎🏼

We were in Austin for the weekend two years ago and came across the place. It was so good that my daughter and I tried to go back the next day but it was closed. We were back this weekend and hunted it down again. It was everything we remembered! Grazi took great care of us and made a great recommendation for the nopales taco. It did not disappoint. The birria and pastor tacos were also delicious of course. We will gladly go back every time we are in downtown Austin!

I come to Austin every year for work and inevitably end up tired and always order taco vaquero, they have always been the best! This year I ordered got the wrong food entirely, could not get a hold of a driver and called both stores where no one answers. I also emailed the webpage. It’s been a week no reply. If this was small whatever but I ordered 40 worth of food and got queso. I am more than upset about this. Do not order from here.

Food was good and pretty authentic, the birria was pretty good. Queso was alright. Absolutely loved that incredible watermelon margarita. Wish there had been live music but we weren't there late enough ig. Next week tho ;)
