This is such a bright star in a depressed little town.A real mama-papa restaurant you should not miss if you like German food. The owners / operators immigrated many years ago and are finally realizing their dream after retiring from a life of farming. They built the small, but delightful, building themselves over a period of time. The menu is not extensive but you could be sitting in frau's kitchen where no one has a fast-food mentality. Don't expect to pop in, eat, and run. Dining is a down-home experience. Our German-born friends have pronounced the food "authentic" and "best this side of Germany." We were delighted to join in an impromptu German sing-a-long with accordian accompaniment ....such memories. Wish they were open more but staff is hard to find. Call to confirm hours.

Lived in Germany for six years, loved the food and beer. Best German food I have eaten in the US in 29 years. Staff was top notch, we will return. Owner was fantastic. Worth the drive.

Nice little German restaurant in a small town about an hour northeast of Austin. Good food, the best red cabbage I've ever had (as random as that is), and great cheesecake that isn't as sweet as normal and has more of a cake-like texture. Very nice owners and staff, and they often have live music. A bit out of the way and in a cell phone dead zone, but definitely worth visiting. Reservations recommended if you're coming from Austin (it would be a long drive to find out there was no room), and mention how many slices of cheesecake you want when making the reservation as they can run out.

Went there on a Saturday night. I was stationed in Germany and know good food. Food was excellent service was a little slow but the wait staff and owner made you feel at home. Had a good selection of beers. Will be going back soon.
