My review mirrors some of the reviews from three or four years ago. There is still a funky smell of sewage. The rice and beans were bland, possibly canned and/or cooked days(?) ahead of time. My order (a grilled chicken dish I can't remember the name of) came out very quickly and was a bit dry, so also probably was cooked before I got there. It doesn't sound like it's improved over the earlier tripadvisor reviews I've read. I don't know who's leaving positive reviews, the food was nearly average at best which saved it from a one-star rating.

Casa Tapatia is hands down one of the best restaurants in SE Texas and the best Mexican Restaurant hands down. The food was fresh. I had this burrito- the Tejano Burrito, wuuuut? The beef was amazing- it’s not “mystery meat.” It was flavorful and melted in my mouth. The wait staff were friendly. The booze hit your boy like “holla!” Dude 5 stars.

Service was excellent and food came out quickly. Tortillas was hand made and warm. All food was good; plenty of it in each serving. My kids liked it too.
I sooooo love their fried avocado stuffed with chicken, and cheese enchiladas are to die for.

Living in Alaska sadly there isn’t good Mexican food so of course a mini trip to Texas had to stop in and get some. This place is delicious. The salsa was little spicy as the free appetizer but still would recommend this place. Fast service too which is always good.
