Hidden gem. Best little restaurant.

It a beautiful place to have a wedding both indoors and outdoors! The staff was helpful and courteous. I was very impressed!

Amazing Hill Country location. Fantastic food in a rustic setting. You can dine al fresco, or inside. Very fresh, locally sourced choices prepared by a talented chef. Impressive wine list. Perfect for special occasions. Upscale food, with a casual feel.

The catfish was excellent. Came from Mississippi. Coleslaw was excellent as well. I'm learning to ask for curbside fried food with container top left open, otherwise it looses it's crispiness. That was done for the catfish and fries. EXCELLENT. CRISPY. Execllent fish batter. Loved the tarter sauce as well. We keep silverware in our vehicle. Just prefer eating with metal utensils plus less waste (don't need anymore plastic buried in our land). Pulled over at a nearby shaded river spot. It was a lovely Friday evening.

I'd give them 10 stars. Out in the middle of nowhere. My wife and I discovered it when we were staying in Comfort one trip to the Hill Country. We'll now go out of our way to make a stop there to eat. The food was out of this world. Beautiful setting, especially in the evening during sunset. They also host weddings and other events on the grounds.

We had our son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner at the Welfare Cafe & Goat Barn, November 2019. I loved working with Gaby and having her recommendations for the meal and evening. We could not have been more pleased with the event space, meal and service! It was a wonderful evening!

We tried to eat there a few weeks ago. When we walked in we saw people dressed up as though it was a wedding party. We were told they were full which is probably true because it is very small. Apparently you need to call ahead for a reservation. I did not see that and according to other reviews their phone is often not answered. We were disappointed we weren't able to try it and had to drive into Boerne to dine.

Rude server and hamburgers were $13.00 each. I think they are currently closed.

My husband and I were married at the Welfare Cafe on March 16, 2019, and we have to say that this was the most incredible wedding we could have ever hoped for! Gaby, the owner, was such a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. Especially on the day of the wedding, she and her entire staff were so, so accommodating. From helping us plan for possible inclement weather at the last minute to showing our guests a wonderful time throughout the entire reception, we could not have asked for a better outcome. We served the duck breast lollipops and poblano goat au gratin to our guests for cocktail hour, and the Chicken Fredericksburg for dinner. It was a delicious, five star spread and we're all still trying to get over the fact that we were only able to eat it once! Also, the venue itself is gorgeous, as it's situated in the Texas hill country and surrounded by historical and natural landmarks alike. (We really didn't need many decorations because of how awesome the natural backdrop is!) Clearly we love this place and the people who run it, so don't pass up this beautiful, hidden gem of a venue!

They were closed and there was a dead deer in the parking lot with about 15 vultures surrounding it. Sooooo...

This was a wonderful place off the beaten path that anyone would enjoy. I loved the quaint atmosphere and the property is beautiful. The gourmet food that was served was delicious and well prepared. A neat place far from anywhere.
