Texas Foodie

We hit up Las Americas Latin Cuisine in Brenham for dinner on our day trip and it was like taking a mini culinary trip through Latin America without leaving Texas. This place is a blend of modern vibes and traditional flavors. I went for the Churrasco Argentino and was not disappointed—perfectly grilled, seasoned just right. The Amazonian Salad is a fresh option for anyone looking to keep it lighter. And don't skip on the Ahi Tuna Nachos; they're a game-changer.

We shared the empanadas, arepitas, and ahi nachos. The ahi nachos reigned supreme! But everything was delicious. The very friendly server helped us decide. It filled up quickly, so a reservation is not a bad idea. Will definitely be back when we're in town.

My wife is from Central America. I'm from here.Neither of us was impressed.4 out of the 10 items we ate were nice. The other tasteless. The sauces were pretty tasteless. Either so hot you couldn't taste anything or so blan you couldn't taste anything.

My wife and I took a lifelong friend here to celebrate his birthday today. If I posted this review after we ate just our small plate appetizers, it would have been a 5-star review. The Ahi Nachos, Cerviche Mixto, and Arepitas Reina Pepaidas, were all flat out excellent. Well-prepared, flavorful, fresh, nice sized portions, appealing to the eye, everything one could possibly want. Unfortunately, that is when our experience took a nosedive. Our friend's Peruvian Lamb Chops were so tough he could barely take a bite out of them. He had to brace his elbows on the table and jerk his head back and forth to bite off meat from the bone. I was appalled. Then, for the first time in 38 years, I witnessed my wife leave 2/3 of her $30 sea bass on her plate and stop eating. She took most of her sea bass to go. When we got back to the car and closed the door, she told me she only took the remainder of her fish because she didn't want to make our friend feel badly for recommending the restaurant. Instead of a delicate fish flavor, the sea bass tasted overwhelmingly of butter. Not what one wants for a $30 piece of fish. In fact, on the way back to Houston, she asked me to stop so that she could throw out the remainder of her leftovers. Which I did. Finally, my Churrasco Argentino was also a big disappointment. Despite being provided a very sharp steak knife, I had to saw the meat back and forth (against the grain, of course) to create small enough bites to eat. Despite being covered in chimmichuri sauce, the churrasco was as flavorless as my wife's sea bass. Now, I have eaten many times at a Houston restaurant that features churrascos (and in fact bears the name of that dish in the restaurant name), so I know what they should taste like. My Las Mericas Churrasco Argentino did not taste bad. It just didn't taste. And when one is spending over $180 for lunch for 3 people including tip, that is simply unacceptable. Before anyone wonders, there is nothing wrong with our sense of taste. Later that same day, we enjoyed Vietnamese banh mi and pho which were both flavorful as they should have been. Do better, Las Americas Latin Cuisine.

We stopped here on the way from Houston to Pedernales National Park. This place has a lovely atmosphere. The interior is modern and the tables are beautifully decorated. The woman helping us was incredibly friendly and just as helpful. The food itself was simply delicious. Every single dish we ordered was well made and beautifully served. One thing to note is that as a vegetarian I was mostly limited to salads, but let me tell you the Amazonian Salad did not disappoint and I left feeling fully satisfied. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

Great concept, dishes from all over Latin America.

Horrible! Cold & tasteless food, bad service. Found a broken toothpick in the meat. Read a previous review/post about roaches, we too saw a few bugs while in there. Definitely would not recommend.

Do not recommend, took 2 hour to get our food and they were not busy, only 2 other tables, staff was making drinks & taking them to the back, it was horrible! They were out of many items on the menu and when we finally did get the food it was barely warm & food tasted spoiled! Definitely do not recommend & Definitely will not ever return!

Everything on the menu is delicious! We always like getting the pupusas as starter. The Costillitas de Res are so flavorful! The crema y queso they drizzle on the rice takes it to the next level. Speaking of sauce... The plantains are cooked perfectly but the sauce they put on top? I could literally drink it...

the food was good but a little skimpy for the price. I had the Cuban sandwich.

We went there with a group of six yesterday. It was obvious from the very start the place was understaffed. Our waitress Cassidy was untrained and inexperienced. First some other waiter brought an appetizer we had not ordered. We ordered three churrasco argentino dishes, and the third one came after the first two were finished for more than 10 minutes. The lobster cake appetizer came when we all had finished with our meals, so we sent it back. The quality of the food is good to great. The ambiance is OK. The management needs to beef up the training of their staff and the coordination between waiters and kitchen. We were brought the check without being asked if we wanted any dessert. The meat of the churrasco argentino was excellent.
