Food was delicious

I love coming here when I’m in town with my family for breakfast. Their tortillas are the best in town! I love that they always have specials during the week. Today we ordered the Tres Maria’s Breakfast with a side of bacon, the Avena Special, and a potato and egg taco. The specials come with free coffee. The specials came out to $7.75 which I thought was very fair for the amount of food you get. The service was okay as we had to wave down the server several times for coffee refills. We also had a roach visit our table twice so we moved tables after the second time. The server tried to kill it but it escaped. She said the exterminator was supposed to fumigate soon. There was no apology or any recourse other than trying to kill it herself. There are plenty of other Ricardo locations so we probably won’t be coming back to this one again.

This restaurant was an excellent find! It is tucked in old downtown Brownsville. The portions are humongous and the flavored-waters are made fresh, no powder-stirred stuff. I had the “Agua de Melón” for beverage and “Milanesa de Pollo.” Oh my Gods, it was delicious. Unfortunately, the portion was larger than I expected and had eaten their fresh tortilla chips and buffet salad earlier. But I ate the entire plate because my momma always said there’s a poor White West Virgina child unable to eat because of their lazy father and upbringing. Or something like that, I don’t quite remember the story. Bottom line, the lesson is that I eat everything placed in front of me.
I highly recommend Ricardo’s Restaurant. You will walk in hungry and walk away delighted and experiencing food-coma.

The Service:
It could be better. Waitress could be more happier taking orders instead of feeling like I’m wasting her time.
The Food:
I ordered the migas plate with black beans. The onions and bell peppers in the potatoes were extremely salty. I had to eat them with the somewhat bland beans.
Ordered crispy bacon and they were very soft.
The atmosphere:
Walking in we were greeted. There was a slight stagnant mop water smell to the place. Not making it enjoyable. But people were coming in not being bothered by it. To each their own.
It was ok. Not the best place but not the worse either.

Management was horrible. Went to the breakfast buffet. There was a lady serving her plate & a roach was crawling on her plate. Then when I go to serve my plate there’s another roach crawling on the tongs. As I drop the tongs I see a dead roach on the buffet table. I went discreetly to the manager to let her know about the roaches. The manager then came back to our table raising her voice at us. Manager was rude and didn’t even apologize or acknowledge us after. I couldn’t even eat after that. NEVER coming here again. Definitely would NOT recommend. Very disappointed on how the situation was handled.
The huevos rancheros here are pretty good, for $8.95 (the tortillas aren't free)you get eggs, bacon, potatoes, fried tortilla and beans.
The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium , the salsa for the eggs was okay, the potatoes were seasoned and with green peppers and onions, the refried beans were super good, the bacon was thick but it was over cooked I prefer it still soft not super crispy.
The flour tortillas are amazing, giant sized and soft, they give you sweet bread while you wait.
Overall I would definitely recommend, they also do healthy meal preps!
