Had the fish, it was really good. Nice thick fillets. Wasn't pleased with the salad, so will try something different next time.
It cost alot of money to eat there food aint that good
Been coming for years and camping found this Restaurant and it was awesome we will be going back
We love this place! it really is consistent and a go to destination for my family. best catfish here in this region!
Fish smelled really bad And was undercooked and had a horrible taste. Thr beans and fries were very cold. This was the worst food I've ever had in my life. When I tried to speak to the manager they did not even care to help. The manager told me it was not their problem and I needed to pay my bill. I will never eat here or recommend this place again to anyone. Everyone one in my group got very sick.
Not a destination restaurant. Cat fish nuggets vice filets, fries under cooked, green beans [Italian flat beans] were mushy. Would i go again--doubtful
Onions rings on point. Chicken fry awesome. Friend said fish was excellent. Fresh hand cut fries. YUM
Used to go there when I was a kid always had the best catfish and 30yrs later still does
Just ate with a group of 14 people and the food was great for everyone and service was excellent!
We've enjoyed Deutschlander for decades, and we've been to the restaurant twice in the last two months since new ownership came in. The first time, there was a noticeable decline in the quality of the food, but we went back again hoping for improvement. That was a mistake. The fillets are no longer catfish, nor does the menu say they are. We always order a plate of fried oysters along with our meal. In the past, the plate was heaped with 12 oysters. Now, the twelve dime-sized oyster pieces are drowning in breading but still don't cover half of the plate. The price is still over 17.00. A glass of wine is maybe 3 ounces, AND beans are no longer served to the table. They can be ordered as one of your sides. Outside, the lovely shade trees, the fence, and the fish pond are all gone. The service was good, but this is NOT the Deutschlander you remember if you've been a long-time patron.

Nice space. Beautiful views out the windows. Tables outside for nice weather. Good was a bit salty. Fish was tender, but rather tasteless. Service was not great. Lots of staff standing and chatting. Had to ask for refills on drinks twice. There are better places in Abilene.
Last night was our first time eating here. We have lived nearby for over 20yrs and wanted to celebrate our anniversary dinner here. I was surprised when we arrived. For a place that I have heard so much about, it was very disappointing to see it so run down. The booth they sat us in was next to a window. The window seal obviously had some sort of water damage and was pealing up. Flies were swarming the inside of the window, not to mention all of the dead decomposing flies that were in the window seal that hadn't been cleaned up for days. Our food wasn't even subpar. I ordered grilled chicken, Caesar salad as a side and green beans. My "grilled" chicken wasn't grilled. It looked more like it had been thrown in a pan and pan fried. It lacked flavor, I don't think it was even seasoned with salt and pepper. The worse part of the chicken it was so tough the steak knife wouldn't even cut it. My Caesar salad looked like it had been made the day before. The lettuce was soggy and wilted and the 3 croutons on top were stale. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, baled potato and fries. The chicken fried steak could have been fried a little longer because it lacked the golden look, still had almost a white coat on it. He didn't touch the day old baked potato that looked like a brick had been thrown on top of it. The little pat of butter wouldn't have touched the dried out over cooked potato. The French fries were limp and definitely could have used a few more minutes in the deep fryer. We definitely learned our lesson here! Wasted trip, wasted gas and $50 wasted on an anniversary dinner!! WONT GO BACK!!
They have great food. The fish is cooked perfect and the baked potatoes are devine.
Tonight service was better considering Chloe was off...she's our favorite!! We skipped my oysters because the price has jumped a good bit. We ordered the Fish for 2, a skewer of shrimp and a side salad. I didn't get my salad...don't know what or why but I asked her to take it off since she brought our food. No biggie...overall the new owners are getting things straight, we will continue to do business with them!!! They gladly welcomed IBuyAbilene discount also...was overall pleased!!!
Catfish is great here! This restaurant is located in Buffalo Gap Texas. Great place to eat and visit with family. It can be a bit crowded so if you have a lot of people call ahead and reserve a table. It's that popular. Highly recommended ? enjoy ?
