This is a great place to stop and eat at while in Castroville. The food is amazing, the staff was so friendly and on point. We will stop and enjoy ourselves the next time through. Want to catch the live music next time.

Shelly was very accommodating during our visit and was very friendly and respectful, I think she owns the place, don’t know who cora is though, will investigate further

Excellent place. And great customer service. We come anytime we are in the area from out of town. We come for the Nachos 😋

I love the old world atmosphere here. I thought the food was decent, but not super-flavorful. My wife felt the same for the burger (I had a Buffalo Chicken Sammich). I don't know what else they could do...or what magical spices to add in, but they could do well to figure that part out. The service was great by the way. I would love to come when they have a band or some event outside.

Great nachos. Went for a birthday party. Service was great, they checked up on everyone. They had a sand area playground for the kids, all walled off so easy to watch the area.

Unfortunately, zero stars is not an option. Horrible service.

Trash service. 10/10 would not recommend.
The food might be decent, but the real specialty here is being treated like you’re inconveniencing them by showing up. The owner serves up condescension and snark like it’s the house special. You can confirm this by reading other reviews, almost every negative one lists this as the reason.
If you leave a negative review — even one that’s fully deserved — you’ll find out the real menu includes review removal and a side of retaliation. The locals will rally, break Google’s review policy, and post bullying, harassing statements in an attempt to silence anyone who tells their truth (which is literally what Google reviews are for…).
If you’re into dining with a side of hostility, censorship, and small-town mob tactics, this is your place. Otherwise, there are plenty of restaurants nearby where good food and basic respect are both on the menu.

Don’t be fooled by the playground, this place is not accommodating to families with children. You will be shamed if your child cries or has a tantrum. They will also get reviews removed and have their friends come on and attack you for sharing your experience.
Stopped in while visiting the San Antonio area because a friend recommended their chicken fried steak. The food was tasty but a member of staff, who identified herself as the owner, was incredibly rude and unfortunately ruined our dining experience.

We came here with my two kids (6 & 2) because they have a playground — I figured that meant they were family‑friendly.
My toddler started crying when he saw the playground but we were told we had to sit inside. He eventually settled down a bit, but then the booster seat they gave us turned out to be completely unsafe. It was too high, causing his shins to painfully press against the table, and it wasn’t strapped to the chair. The chair itself had no arms, so the whole setup could easily tip. I had no choice but to move him to a highchair — which he hates — and that led to another meltdown.
I was doing my best to manage both kids, in between interactions with the wait staff (who to be fair, were wonderful), when the owner tapped me on the shoulder and, without a hint of empathy, told me: “You need to take him outside until he calms down.”
I want to be clear — the issue wasn’t the request itself. It was the cold, rude way it was delivered (which seems to be the owner's brand if you read some other reviews) and the complete lack of reasonable options. I had another young child at the table who couldn’t be left alone, and the situation could’ve easily been handled with a little compassion.
Had they simply honored my original request to sit outside, or said something like, “We can see he's really upset, can we take your order real quick and you can wait at the playground? We’ll come get you when your food’s ready,” I would’ve been incredibly grateful, and it would have accomplished the same thing, but with empathy that earned them a loyal customer. Instead, I was humiliated — while solo-parenting two small kids, with my husband away on military orders.
Parents: don’t be fooled by the playground. This place may look family‑friendly, but the attitude tells a very different story. Kindness matters.
