The food at this restaurant was truly outstanding—no complaints there. However, we did experience an uncomfortable situation with the billing process that I believe is worth addressing.

When the check arrived, we were asked if we’d like to pay or review it first. Thankfully, I chose to review it, and I’m glad I did. There were multiple errors:
• Extra items that we didn’t order were added to the bill, which were only removed after we pointed them out.
• The deposit we had paid earlier wasn’t deducted until we noticed and brought it to their attention.

These mistakes totaled $190, which could have been overpaid had we not carefully checked the bill. This experience left me feeling disappointed—accurate billing should be a given. I strongly encourage other diners to double-check their bills as well.

Lastly, on a personal note, I’m not comfortable with the restaurant automatically adding a 20% gratuity to the bill. While I absolutely value good service and often tip generously (and would have done so here), I feel strongly that gratuity should be left to the discretion of the customer. Automatically deciding this for guests takes away that choice, and I don’t believe it should become the standard.

I hope this feedback helps the restaurant improve its practices because the food itself is excellent, but these issues made the overall experience less enjoyable.

My son brought us here to celebrate his mom's birthday, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The intimate atmosphere, the talented chefs, and the expert bartender all contributed to a top-notch evening. Each of the 16 sushi courses was a unique experience in itself. If you're ever in the Austin area, I highly recommend seeking this place out—it's a must-try!

Wonderful experience the chefs were very friendly, with an extensive knowledge of Japanese cuisine. The Japanese whisky list was extensive. It was overall a great omakase experience.

Best sushi I’ve ever had. Each piece was unique and so well made. The setting is intimate and the chefs do a great job explaining what you’re eating. Felt like an authentic Omakase experience. It’s pricey (our bill was $700 for two people) but worth a try.

Jack and Grace provided probably the best food experience I’ve ever had. I’ve been to renowned restaurants all over the country and this experience was for sure my favorite. Food was fantastic and Chris the bartender provided the perfect combination of comedic relief and liquor knowledge.

Loved the experience - the sushi was fresh and delicious. Some pieces were topped with unique ingredients with texas flavor! The service was great and the atmosphere is very intimate. The location is in a weird spot but it’s worth the drive. I’ll definitely be back!

Sushi + chasing Eclipse.Snuck an amazing meal in at Sushi by Scratch as we chased the solar eclipse.Sushi by Scratch has several locations including in Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, and Chicago but we luckily had a location at the remote but lovely Hyatt Lost Pines outside of Austin, Texas. It’s a hidden entry in their main Stories restaurant and the intimate seating and secret entry add to the unique dining experience. There is an ample selection of sake and Japanese-inspired cocktails and the sushi is exceptional, albeit non-traditional.It’s a creative take often adding Texas touches such as pecan shavings and torch to the 17 made to order nigiri, including dessert.I loved the shima aji and botan ebi but also love the creativity of the A5 Wagyu and bone marrow offerings. All in all, a superb meal with other fellow food lovers showcasing the level of Japanese inspired cuisine in Texas.? Omakase $165 per person: Tessin / Hamachi / Toro / Hotate / Shima Aji / Madai / Botan Ebi / King Salmon / Alboacore / Akami / Hirame / Escolar / A5 Wagyu / Bone Marrow / Unagi / Uni / Dessert.?Sushi by Scratch (Lost Pines, TX)Seating is indoor only and reservations are recommended on Tock

Amazing experience and food, one of the best I've ever had. The only drawback is the crazy prices, you will spend $350+ per person if you purchase the drink pairing. However, even though we spent close to $800USD as a couple, I don't regret it, amazing experience.

Worth the drive! Overall from start to finish this is a fantastic culinary experience. Each bite is carefully curated to show off high quality fish and local ingredients. While I am no sushi expert, this experience seemed to me to be the perfect mingling of Japanese omakase sushi blended respectfully with Texas flair. One of the reasons my experience was so great is that all of the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating for those with dietary restrictions. For every bite it was explained in great detail what we were eating, how to best enjoy it, why it was being matched with a certain drink, and even secrets on its preparation. Overall well worth it!

The entire experience was unforgettable, from the valet service to the final bite, each step was done with care. Selections were also exquisite and done with care. Omakase is on the pricier side, but it really is one of the best ones in
