As a resident of The Commons, I initially thought having an all-access dining plan would be convenient and worthwhile. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case. The overall dining experience at The Commons has been deeply disappointing, enough so that I stopped eating the meals there halfway through my first semester.
One of the most frustrating aspects was the speed of service. The staff were consistently extremely slow, even during non-peak hours. Waiting in line became a daily routine that consumed far more time than necessary, which added unnecessary stress to an already busy college schedule.
Even more disheartening was the overall attitude of the staff. While there were occasional exceptions, most of the interactions I had with the dining hall employees felt curt and unfriendly. There seemed to be little regard for customer service or for creating a welcoming environment for students who rely on the facility multiple times a day.
The food itself did not justify the inconvenience. Quality and taste were inconsistent at best, and I quickly found myself opting out altogether. By mid-semester, I gave up on the meals entirely and settled for a bagel in the morning just to get by. It's frustrating to know that I paid for unlimited access and yet felt compelled to avoid the dining hall almost entirely.
If I could go back, I would absolutely not purchase the all-access plan again, even as a resident of The Commons. The convenience was simply not worth the cost, and I hope the university takes serious steps to improve both the food and service experience for future students.
This place used to be pretty good when I came here as a freshman, now that I am a junior I have noticed that the food quality and selection has grown consistently worse and worse every single year. For example, the grill used to serve chicken tenders on a regular basis, whereas now the typical item being served at the grill is a measly hot dog or a grilled cheese. This university has an immense amount of resources yet we are shorted on our dining quality.
They need to really change the way this place is ran. I have gotten food poisoning from here and I feel like that says enough. The food is always bland. The pasta bar they have serves the most tasteless plate of food I have ever had. The Alfredo sauce is very clearly watered down. I understand that this probably isn’t the most ideal job, but I and many others rely on these dining halls for food. This institution costs THOUSANDS of dollars, the meal plans cost THOUSANDS more. Why do I have to pay all of this money for food that not even McDonald’s would serve?? The desserts always suck. The food always suck. The employees Always look like they are in the verge of walking out. I have never seen more upset people than the employees who work here. I can’t even blame the employees, I know if they were paid enough they would probably care a lot more. A&M needs to change the way it does things in the dining hall. Food is a reprieve from the stresses of classes for many students and to make the food this sub par is borderline abusive. Give people what they pay for and make the food more than just edible. And pay your god damn workers enough to care.
Typical student dorm dining. I thought they had quite a good variety for $14/ person.
Gotta try it to know what I mean. Little times the food slaps and sometimes it’s mid. Really this review should be a 3.5 but meh. I’ll give extra .5 for good honeydew 😋

I will start by saying that I eat at the commons dining hall ATLEAST twice a day. And the atmosphere, service, and food are all great. Despite the dining hall having not too many great options at times, they still deliver quality food.

Wheelchair accessibility: They do have an elevator to get to the dining hall. Just ask the 24 hour desk.

Enjoyed a good hot breakfast here during a summer New Student Conference. Clearly the dining hall was in "summer mode" and not in full swing, so the selection was somewhat limited. Understandable.

It’s convenient because I have the a dining plan and live in the Commons, but the food is not usually great, sometimes bad, and mostly just ok. It’s often over seasoned/salty and many times the dining hall is cheap on main ingredients like meat and veggies. A lot of carbs. For example, the veggie pizzas only have veggies toward the middle. However, you can ask for extra vegetables, which helps. Not always the case with meat, except when not busy. It helps that it’s all you can eat, so you can go back for more. Eat at Sbisa instead when you get the chance.
Great food. Need friendlier staff serving the food.
I come here when I'm hungry
Food is acceptable
