The day before I visited I saw this restaurant on my way to Padre Is. I googled the restaurant n menu to check it out. I liked what I saw on their website so I decided to visit for breakfast the next day considering they are close to the hotel where I was staying. Restaurant is clean n the decor is pleasant. Staff seems nice n welcoming. Waitress came over right away to take our order. I had the carne guisada/eggs n my husband had barbacoa/eggs. Both plates were excellent. Portions are generous n it took about 10mins for our food to be served. The flour tortillas are big n delicious. Coffee was good too. The food plates I saw being served looked very well put together. We definitely enjoyed our breakfast time. Upon getting ready to leave I asked the waitress for the very same plate of carne guisada to go. When she brought it, I was glad I checked it cause it was a whole different plate from what I had ordered. I told her n she went back to get the correct plate. Again she brought out the to go plate n again I checked it n again it was wrong. I had asked for scrambled eggs n it had fried eggs instead. Seeing that for some reason she couldn’t get it right, I called for the mgr. Although she was courteous, she seemed bothered that I was complaining about my order. She corrected my order n brought my bill. I then see I was being charged a higher price n alerted her to it n again she seemed more bothered I called it to her attention. Were it not for this incident (mistakes happen), our experience would’ve been 5 stars. I could tell I had made a good choice in picking this restaurant after all. It’s good affordable mexican food.
We have gone here every year for the last 9 years when we go on vacation to Corpus Christi and I would brag about how good the food and service was but this year we ordered take out since we were renting a house just 4 miles away. I repeated the order twice over the phone and paid for it. When we got the food home it was almost inedible, I don’t know if it was because it was a big order for 6 people and an hour and half before closing or it has gone down in quality so bad in a years time. The fajitas steak was so tough and dry the re fried beans were dry and could of been used for mortar. The sour cream sauce on top of the chicken enchiladas was just as if someone put sour cream real thick over the enchiladas not a sauce but very thick and lumpy. They forgot to place the separate order of regrows beans with cheese in the order and they totally forgot the sour cream for the nachos which I repeated twice beef not bean and of course we got bean beef and cheese nachos with soggy chips and it just was not good. My wife had to go back for the things forgotten and also her order was double beans no rice we got rice and beans, so we won’t be going back and if you work hard for your money and want good food not thrown together bottom of the pan food don’t go here. We were really upset with the whole thing because this was one of our favorite spots to visit.
My wife and I met 3 other couples there on an early Saturday evening after leaving another place because of an hour wait. The place was virtually empty... and that alone should have told us all we needed to know. It took forever to order, and longer than normal for the food to be served. The food was very good .... but that’s were the good ended. The service was terrible as the staff seemed more interested in their mutual social interaction than the customers. We never received a bill but the amount due was calculated at the checkout. That process for four couples was almost 15 minutes.
I have driven by this place for years - glad I finally stopped. Started with huge & well prepared micheladas. Those alone are worth a return visit. The enchilada plates are both huge & tasty. Excellent refried beans. Tasty rice. These 2 sides often suffer from blandness. I will be back to explore the many options on the huge menu.
