Backwoods Texas Style Grill

Traveling home from Arlington and needed some grub. We decided to stop in Cross Plains. We were pleasantly surprised by the absolutely delicious food at Backwoods. I had the small CFS with mashed taters and broccoli and hibby had HB steak with green beans and fried okra. Both of us enjoyed every bite.

If you're looking for a simple, yet perfectly executed comfort meal, well than come here to Backwoods. I recently enjoyed a cheeseburger served on a sourdough bun, and I can confirm: this is Texas Style excellence.
The star of the show, surprisingly, wasn't just the patty, but the sourdough bun. Its crispy and firm enough to hold up to the juicy patty, cheese, and a generous layer of ketchup without falling apart.
A great burger needs a great side, and the waffle fries delivered. They were flawlessly crispy on the edges and soft in the center, seasoned to perfection.
This combination... the satisfying crunch of the waffle fries... the burger making my taste buds jump, and the sourdough bun... It is truly an unforgettable plate of comfort food. I Highly recommended eating here!!!!!

The waitress was the best part of this visit. She was super nice and was the ONLY server. The TLDR is the wait was not worth the food. We waited over an hour and a half for our appetizer. The brisket poppers did not contain brisket. After we have been there for so long, we were then told they were out of buffalo sauce for the Buffalo chicken salad. The pork chops were bland and the portion of Mac and cheese tasted odd and was tiny. Chicken fried steak was okay.

Our caterer backed out on us 3 months before our wedding and we were in a panic! Shawn, the owner of Backwoods Texas Style Grill, swooped in and handled everything with professionalism that brought ease to all our worries. They catered our wedding of 100+ people. The food was delicious and all of our plates were stacked. I cannot recommend them enough! I had some guest stop me and tell me it was the best wedding meal they’d ever had. Please consider them for any of your catering or dining needs, they will not disappoint!

The new manager/cook Megan is phenomenal! I have recently become addicted to her homemade gravy. If you haven't been to Backwoods lately, or you have stopped going before due to the over salty food, now is the time to get down there. If Megan is in the kitchen, the food is going to be fantastic, fresh, hot, full portioned and fast. You will get your money's worth! I am just a customer, I don't know her. I just know that here lately, everytime she's there, my food is always great. The waitress Gracie is a nice edition to the establishment for always getting the order right. I now highly recommend going to Backwoods.

The service was excellent, and the food was really good as well. Larger portions than we expected. Definitely recommend!

If you don't mind a little drive The Backwoods in Cross Plains is amazing!! The food is seasoned well, the portions are large & the prices are great!! I always get the chicken fry & my husband gets the Cheeseburger. The chicken fry I crave a couple of days after eating it. The seasoning is incredible. It comes with 2 sides & garlic toast for only $11.99 ( & I had already started eating it before I took the picture) The Cheeseburger is 1/2lb for $10.99 & comes with your choice of ff & they give you a mound of ff's. I've also gotten the cheese sticks you get 3 or 4 huge log size homemade cheese sticks for $6.99. They are always brown & crispy & so delicious. The service is always quick & friendly & the restaurant is clean. Please give this our of the way a chance to impress you with their all around great restaurant.

I ordered a BLT and side of broccoli instead of fries to go. It came in a Styrofoam container without anything protecting the food from the container. When I noticed that the food has melted the styrofoam I had went back. I hate to be that person, but I tried the broccoli and I could taste it in the food. I went back in and apologized to the cashier before I even told her my concern because I didn’t want to come off rude to her. She was super nice about it and was really understanding and wonderful. When she went to tell the cook the cook had a huge attitude and I genuinely apologized to her…I understand most people aren’t as health conscious as I am, but as a young female I try to be somewhat conscious. She then very rude like said you are sorry…lol I was like what? I told her that I wasn’t trying to be rude I just didn’t want to consume melted plastic. I then told the cashier that I promise I wasn’t trying to be difficult and she was super nice about it, but with the cook being extremely unpleasant about it I didn’t want to disrupt her smoke break or whatever she was doing outside so I told her not to worry about it. The cook then came out and said she didn’t say that and it was fine. I told her that I was standing right next to her and heard her call me sorry..lol idk if whoever is reading this understands that saying, but it was rude. She then apologized and just kept denying that she said that to me. She said I misunderstood her which is not true. I definitely heard her call me that. I was 4 feet away from her. She said she would remake it, but I just don’t want someone that is that negative towards me to make my meal. It puts me in a very weird situation. I prefer my food to be made with love, or at least neutral energy. Not hate…no offense. It was a cute restaurant and like the only one in town, but wow. I either eat a meal marinated in melted styrofoam or have the cook insult me. I am sorry to say that I left without food and am now going back to my mom’s house to cook. I’m in town visiting and she has an event in 30 mins so I didn’t want to mess up the kitchen, but I don’t have any other food options since this is the only restaurant that came up on my Google search.

Shawn smoked out briskets for our family Easter Celebration! It was awesome. Cooked perfectly! He was great to deal with and was the best price around. Thank you Shawn!

Everything !!! There are no words to describe how awesome the food was. The All American Club was amazing, the hamburgers were delicious and the chicken club was amazing as well. All the options for fries and okra were delicious, if you are passing through Cross Plains Tx you have to stop and eat.

Me and my family will not be goin bk here our food had to be sent back due to not being cook all the way though severs was not on top of the drinks
