Pictures of items provided. Ocean Grill earned 2 stars for being nice, but our experience goes downhill from there. They were understaffed which led to long waits for about everything, and they were out of many items. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak and I ordered the Mahi Mahi with Cajun Shrimp Sauce and a cup of seafood gumbo for an appetizer. A table of 3 that came in after us got their dinners before I got my gumbo appetizer though we had ordered before they had even sat down. The gumbo was very salty and the shrimp in it were mush, but it did have a nice underlying flavor which indicates it would be good if it was fresher. My wife's chicken fried steak had a weird flavor that reminded me of fennel and the toast was a garlic toast instead which was off putting. The shrimp on my Mahi Mahi dish were good as was the dirty rice. The garlic mash side looked old and contained undercooked potato pieces. The "spicy green beans" were canned green beans with what tasted like paprika on them. This was disappointing because spicy green beans made with fresh or even frozen green beans are really good. Crushed red pepper or pepper sauces should be used instead of paprika which isn't really spicy at all.My Mahi Mahi was overcooked and dry and was covered with a gloopy "Cajun" sauce which overpowered the flavor of everything. If the fish was prepared correctly and the sauce was thinner, it might have been nice.
Not worth what you pay and the service sucks! The place looked cute and clean. However, my biggest issue was the wait. We waited over an hour for our food and we've seen multiple people coming in after us getting their food, eating, and leaving before we got ours. The waitress was MIA for the longest time! We waited so long the ice in our drinks were non existent. The food was also a disappointment. The sweat tea left you with a nasty aftertaste. The gator kickers appetizer was okay. For our meals we had shrimp tacos, shrimp quesadilla with a baked potato, mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings, hot wings and coconut shrimp. The shrimp tacos, quesadilla, and wings were alright but pretty basic. The buns on the burger were super soggy and the meat was salty. The flavor of the onion rings were more like a dessert instead. Super sweat giant onion rings. The coconut shrimp tasted more like coconut cakes. The food was definitely not expected from a place that looks like this and costs as much as it does. The overall experience was poor.
We went on a Friday night about 7pm. We had to wait for about an hour for a two top table. The staff were very nice and running their bootys off!!! The margarita was good. I ordered a patty melt. The patty was good but there was not enough melt to the sandwich. My husband had fried fish and blackened shrimp. The highlight was the fish. He said it was cooked perfectly. They were out of onion rings but the fries were very good. Took a while for us to get our check and get out of there but you have to be patient because every person there was working their very best! Very much worth visiting again.
Our family makes a point of visiting Ocean Grille a few times during our vacations- it’s so handy for picking up a quick pizza, and the menu items are delicious! This year, restaurants are having such a hard time with staffing and supply, Ocean Grille included, but our waitress handled the chaos beautifully! She calmly and quickly suggested substitutions and handled the work of probably four waitresses, at least. (Management- be sure to give her a bonus!) Expect long waits and limited menus at all Bolivar restaurants right now, but you will still get excellent food and kind service.
Food was on POINT. Really tasty and that Cajun Cornbread was an absolute must. Best thing tastes in a very long time. Sadly, the service was below par. No refills, took forever to get sour cream for what then was cold potatoes, they were nice but seemed dead on the inside. Not sure I'd they are not getting paid enough or tipped. Sad of that is truth but that's pry the only complaint. Other than that they have amazing food.
Worst service. Online order was supposed to be 30 min max. Came in after 15. Took 45 min for some burgers. No apologies, no comps. Just excuses that weren’t true. Not worth it.
When we arrived there was a sign on the door saying they were closed 2-5 for prep, they did not open the doors until nearly 5:10, once inside we were told they only had 1 waitress, we were prepared to be patient. We got our drinks quickly and order taken quickly, then waited over 30 minutes for extremely poor quality food that had sit under a heat lamp so long that the sauce on the Buffalo wings was nearly dry. The coconut shrimp was more breading than shrimp or coconut. Waitress, who had 3 other people helping her at this point ignored us the entire time after taking our order.
Had a sign on front door stating they were closed from 2-5 for prep. Didn't open until about 10 after five. We were seated and served drinks fairly quickly. Waited at least thirty minutes to be served food. Food had clearly been sitting under heat lamps for quite awhile. Nothing was hot. Coconut shrimp was dried out and had little flavor. Waitress never came to check on us. Could not get anyone's attention. People came in after us that were served, paid and left while we sat and waited for someone to help. We finally walked out because no one would bring us a ticket. They ran out to get their money, which we did pay. We had a little one with us that was getting ready to melt down so it wasn't worth sticking around to complain to manager. There are few places to eat here and we had high hopes for this place. Judging from other people's faces, reactions, etc., we were not the exception. Don't bother.
Food was okay. Service was slow. Patty melt had mayo on it. Waiter took money never brought change back when was told wanted change back, he was on other side of restaurant taking orders. Finally left
5 year anniversary and in town from Houston. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but on a hectic night we had a waitress come thru for us and was really good to us. Excellent food and amazing waitress. Cassie is the waitress that you want at this spot. Thank you, Cassie, so much for making a memory for my wife and I.

Decent thin crust pizza, generous with the cheese. We also got the fried green beans which were pretty good. We ordered over the phone with ease and it was ready quickly for pickup. We would go back again.Update: we went back a second time on the same trip. I got some boiled shrimp and a Swiss mushroom burger. The shrimp was incredible!! I can’t say it enough, I’ve never had shrimp this good. The burger was really good too, but the shrimp was the star! Enough to upgrade to 5 stars.
Serendipitous! Stopped with no knowledge about restaurant. Comfy, local restaurant... full bar. Menu diverse with good seafood selection. Friendly staff...owner engage (and proud of establishment. Good seafood, some Louisiana classics. This goes in the win column.
My kids got the seafood platter. So much variety and it was absolutely delicious. I got blackened chicken, jalapeño corn and friend okra. My husband got the blacked catfish. It was all AMAZING. Wait staff was friendly and very attentive. I had low hopes because the menu is basic but I was pretty blown away so the the flavor of the food. Also enjoyed the vibe here.
We went here for lunch and read the reviews and trusted them. Ordered a cheesestake, onion rings and fries. It was steady but I can't say they were terribly busy. Anyway the onion rings were tasteless. No seasonings at all. The fries were cold. I had requested marinara, never did get that and "reheated" fries were brought at the end. We plan on staying a week more and would have gone here more times. Not now. We were very disappointed. Our waitress was nice but really didn't put much effort into making our food right.
Ate lunch here in the 'off season', February, the food is not bad but nothing noteworthy. 2 of us had water to drink, an app and 2 chicken wraps and it was $50. Very pricey for what we ate but if you are visiting the area, the food is better than some of the other places in town.
