**One star is not for food**

I had BH around 2019/2020 when it was located in Dallas. FANTASTIC!

However, I visited the DeSoto location and was disappointed. Not because of the food, but because IT WAS CLOSED upon arrival. I checked Google for Sunday January 18- Opens at noon. I drove 45+ mins and arrived at noon for the place to be closed AND also waited 30 minutes to see if maybe someone was running late. Never opened. There were 2 other customer waiting on their car. They left about 1220pm.

I placed an order online on Saturday, 10/26/2025, for breakfast, and arrived to pick it up only to find the business closed for a private event. There was no notice or alert on the website or ordering system indicating they would be closed. When the owner opened the door, he simply said, “We are closed and I already sent your refund back,” with no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience of my time, gas, and effort to get there. The interaction felt dismissive, as if processing a refund for an order I never received was a favor rather than correcting their mistake.
As of today, November 2, I still have not received the refund of $10.73 that he claimed was already sent. While the dollar amount is small, the lack of communication, accountability, and basic courtesy is the real issue. This review is not just about the refund — it is about the complete disregard for the inconvenience caused to a paying customer. Businesses should value customer time and make sure their systems accurately reflect closures, and when errors happen, a simple apology and proper follow-up go a long way.

My husband and I have had catering from here before at our church and loved it! But this past Sunday was our first time going to pick up an order and it was more than worth the drive and money spent. We got the catfish plate and catfish & grits. The quality of the food, flavor and service are top notch. I really love that they fry their fish in beef tallow. Also noteworthy… I’ve never had soul food that keeps me full but makes me feel good after eating it. I really appreciate the quality and freshness are a priority without compromising on flavor.

Maaaaan!
Ordered the Catfish n’ Grits and my wife got the Soulfood Plate (2 Catfish, Greens, & Mac) and Boi, they did not come to play! The fish n grits was something I’ve never had but it is definitely a staple now. The greens? Bussin’ The Mac? Delicious, hell even the tartar sauce was like no other. We’ve BEEN looking for a soul food spot and The Good Lord done led us right once again. We will be back to try damn near everything else on the menu. Great job young sir! I tip my hat to you and yours. Thank you. We will be back.

Baby, let me tell you something, when I say the catfish plate was everything, I mean everything. I drove all the way from Tarrant County after hearing folks talking about this place, and now I see what the fuss was about.

The catfish was fried to perfection, golden, crispy, seasoned just right with that touch that tastes like somebody's grandma been in the back with her cast iron skillet. Big, generous portions too!

Customer service was warm and welcoming. If you're from the South, you know what good catfish is supposed to taste like and look like and this was it. Worth every mile and every minute.

Don’t sleep on it. I’ll definitely be back.

Nice place to visit. Really happy I chose them.

First, I want to thank owner & chef Jessie, the man literally behind it all at this spot for being so welcoming to us & for being a chef with a real passion for cooking fully intact. That's why its so damn good. Now I would call this a hidden gem, but thanks to the Internet in 2024, its definitely not very hidden, but its for sure a GEM. Had a breakfast burrito with fried shrimp, egg, cheese & french fries that was a dream come true. Been looking for a shrimp breakfast burrito for a long time, so literally, a dream manifested. The shrimp itself = straight delicious. I will most def be back here soon and if you live in the DFW area at all, you should meet me there.

It's been almost a year since my last visit. Today, the 'soul food burrito ' wasn't very tasty. Seems as though the fish' tasted more baked than fried. Last year when I had the burrito, it was perfect. Nevertheless, it wasn't bad.

I got the blacked salmon sandwich and it delicious. Nice size salmon and well seasoned. It was my first time and I’ll definitely be returning to try more things on the menu.
