I knew this would be a great place to take some friends who had never been to Texas before and wanted to experience non-chain Tex-Mex. The neighborhood, building, decor, staff and quality of food was perfect. However, the mirachi band is too much. Way too loud. It doesn't need to be so loud. It was if the horns had to prove they could play loudly. I get it, when a mirachi band is playing you don't have conversation, but wow, it doesn't have to be so overwhelming. We will go back. Great place!
El Ranchito is one of the old line of restaurants in Dallas, where multiple generations of families have made this Jefferson Blvd. spot for years and can argue over their favorite dishes. El Ranchito specializes in Northern Mexico food, where goat has a place of honor on the menu, beyond the typical Tex Mex combo platters. We had birria tacos and caldo de Pollo. The caldo was packed with chicken and lots of carrots and Calabasas, but frankly the broth could have been better. The corn tortillas were some of the best in Dallas. The birria tacos were wonderful, with generous portions of shredded beef and griddled cheese in each. Pintos were outstanding, the rice nicely cooked. Consomme was a bit salty. Seating was prompt with no wait, at the end of Sunday lunch rush, and service was wonderful. If you have not visited, pay El Ranchito a visit for terrific regional food and warm service. Prices during lunch were around $20/person.

AVOID THIS PLACE. Went here for a friend’s birthday dinner and had some of the WORST food and service ever! We had an area reserved for the dinner so when we arrived we were seated without a problem. Of course we arrived before our friend since we were going to surprise her but once we were seated they never came back to check on us. We had to wait over 30 minutes for them to give us a simple basket of chips and salsa and not even ask if we’d like drinks. They waited until everyone showed up to hand out menu’s and asked right away what we wanted to drink without giving us the chance to look it over. The waiter seemed bother by the fact that we were there! I asked for two Fantas, one for me and one for my oldest daughter, and he asked me again what I wanted. He was really upset that I wasn’t getting a beer. I wonder if he always tries to force men to get beer! Once he came back with the drinks, he slammed them down on the table and got spilt some ON MY DAUGHTER. Now I wasn’t going to make a scene, since we were there to celebrate someone, so I let it go. Our experience there just kept getting worse and worse. We ordered a Mexican burger and some extra fries. When the food came out I completely DISLIKED this place! THE WORST FOOD I’VE EVER HAD!! The food was DISGUSTING! The fries were cold, soggy, and without flavor. The burger, which they charge another $7 just for adding a SINGLE piece of ham, tasted so horrible. Now again I didn’t want to ruin our friend’s celebration so I didn’t say anything. If it wasn’t for the fact that I didn’t want to give them free money, I would have not ate that burger. Luckily we had cut it in half to split it. We didn’t want to get more food since the service was already horrible so the food would probably come out just as bad. We did say that if we were wrong then we’d get more food. But man did they prove us right! The burger tasted how a nasty used public restroom smells. Like if they had decided to cook or prepare it in their restroom. SO BAD, we had to get something else after to get that taste out of our mouths. They didn’t even bother to ask if we wanted refills. And for all these reasons we didn’t leave a tip! If you want some good food and service, this ain’t the place.
I’m not sure how they have so many 5 star recent reviews. I’d give them 0 stars if I could.

A stable of the community since 1983. Best Tex-Mex in town hands down. Bring cash to pay for Mariachi songs , the real deal. Great overall experience. Highly recommend. Enjoy!

I'm a 60-year-old woman, my husband is 61, and my 90-year-old aunt. Today we went to have a delicious lunch, and suddenly, as I walked in, a spider fell on me. I almost had a heart attack. I started shaking and felt an uncontrollable urge to cry and shake. I got a headache; I have high blood pressure. And everyone laughed like it was funny. I don't think that kind of joke should be made in a restaurant where a lot of people come in to enjoy a delicious lunch. The lunch really didn't taste good to me. I have to blame them.
