We're from out of town and came upon Goodwins by happenstance for lunch. On that trip, we ate lunch and turned around and returned for lunch the next day because we enjoyed it so much. We found ourselves in town again last weekend and would not think of eating anywhere else. The interior design is so well done and well thought out. The interior is perfect for anything from a girl's lunch date to a dinner date. You can come casual or come dressed up. The service is excellent every time. To not be missed: the zucchini chips, frozen cosmo, the chicken salad sandwich (the BEST) and the patty melt. Definitely don't miss the beef tallow fries. Can't wait until our next trip to Dallas which will definitely involve a trip to Goodwins.

What happened to this place? We went a year ago, shortly after it opened and it was fantastic. Everything we ate was really good. So we decided to go back this weekend with 5 people for a birthday dinner and it was super disappointing.

Let’s start with the appetizers. We ordered the focaccia bread, chicken kofta meatballs and zucchini chips. The best of the lot was the “focaccia” and I put quotes around it because it was clearly not focaccia: it was Texas Toast DRENCHED in butter and served with a side of…herb butter. Of course it was delicious because anything drenched in butter and toasted and served with more butter is going to be delicious. The zucchini chips were pretty good, but nothing outstanding. And the chicken meatballs had a weird, offputting flavor.

Two of us had salads and the waitress really hyped up the Caesar salad and the special beet salad. Neither lived up to expectations. The Caesar was run of the mill—chopped romaine and what seemed like store bought croutons in a pretty drab dressing. With a whole unappetizing anchovy on top. The special beet salad was not special either. And neither were worth the $13 or $15 they charge.

Entrees too were disappointing. We had two filets, a Rigatoni Genovese, and the Red Bird Half Chicken. The filets were seasoned ok, but neither came out particularly hot and the consistency of one was “slimy” (our guest’s words). And the GI steak sauce was awful. I urge them to rethink serving this to anyone. The Rigatoni was cooked well (Al dente) but the Genovese sauce was super strange and also unappetizing. My 20 year old son barely touched it. The chicken was probably the best of the entrees—moist, juicy, crispy skin. The mashed potatoes were very good and the Mac and cheese while not original or groundbreaking was also pretty good, as were the Smashed Yukons.

For desert we shared the cookie butter cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Both sound better than they were, though neither was bad. Just average.

Again, we were really excited to bring new people back to Goodwins after an amazing experience just a year earlier. I don’t know what has happened in the year since but based on this meal I know we won’t be back.

Met here for cocktails at the bar. Loved the ambiance, service, and cleanliness of the establishment! I didn’t try food, this time, but the drinks were absolutely amazing! There was a lady next to me who raved about the Starcrunch Cake with ice cream, I didn’t get a bite, despite her offer, but I will try and come back to update the review.

I can’t wait to return.

I’ve been here twice now with my fiance. The first time we came was amazing. The food was great, pretty expensive but I thought worth it. The little speakeasy in the back is gorgeous. Now this time we came in we didn’t eat. We just went to the speakeasy to meet a friend. The female bartender waited on us first and she was very kind and gave us a suggestion for a good martini. However the gentleman bartender that was with her was quite rude. We ordered oysters and he brought us our share plates and napkins, placing a napkin on the table for the oysters to sit on. He informed us it was for the condensation and to not move the napkin. I think informing us in a polite way such as “I’m going to place this napkin here for the oyster condensation” was enough. Telling us not to move it was not necessary. Then he goes on to embarrass me by walking to our table and asking for my trash as he sees I am using a toothpick to make marks in my coaster. I understand why he would want to pick up the coaster before I make a mess, but honestly that’s your job. If someone spills something, you clean it up. If someone breaks a glass, you clean it up. We are paying you to dine at your establishment, and it’s not a cheap restaurant. It’s borderlining fine dining. Don’t be rude to your guests. Also we had empty drinks for at least 10 minutes before they even came over to ask if we needed anything else. We just took the check and went somewhere else.

Up class atmosphere, very nice interior design. The servers and the staff are not the nicest people but maybe it was just a bad day for some. Not all was bad, the host was very kind and welcoming. The bartender was helpful with my food choice and friendly. The rest of the staff seemed a little bit intimidated.

I truly thought this was going to be a 5 star experience, I’m almost wondering if we just came on an off night because I’ve heard such good things.

The build out is stunning. I absolutely loved the vibe of this restaurant. It has so much charm. I came here for a girls dinner, and we had such a good time. Our service was perfect, and the music was at a great volume for all of us to talk. I got the morningside spritz and loved it!

The food is what shocked me. I was surprised by the steaks. We were told Goodwin’s was known for their steaks, so I got the filet and my girlfriend got the strip. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, and looked beautiful but lacked seasoning. Both needed salt 😭 we were really surprised because they looked so good.

We ordered the cheese beignets, mac and cheese, roasted mushrooms and cookie butter cheesecake. We liked the mushrooms and the cheese beignets. The mac and cheese was just okay. The cookie butter cheesecake was extremely rich, the cookie butter was overpowering. My girl ordered the pork chop, and that was everything! Get the pork chop!

Again, maybe an off night. I may try going again!

Goodswings is an awesome spot overall. The service was excellent—everyone was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambience was brilliant too, with a comfortable and welcoming vibe that made the whole experience enjoyable.

The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is because my entrée wasn’t as good as I expected. Everything else, from the atmosphere to the staff, was spot on, so I’d definitely come back and try something different next time.

Always excited to find a new staple restaurant to add to my favorite places to go out in Dallas. We came in on a super busy Saturday night with a reservation. Table was waiting for us as we walked in. Service was phenomenal. It was almost like the drinks and food were waiting for us to order them and as soon as we put our order in with our waitress - there they were.

I don’t actually think anything was sitting premade, but with the house being packed front to back it was very impressive how quickly our drinks, appetizers, and entrees came out. The drinks were good, appetizers tasty and entrees on point.

My only criticism would be the ribeye could be a better piece of beef. For $70 I was expecting a steak I’d buy at central market, but was more like a Kroger ribeye. Still tasted decent enough and the peppercorn sauce complimented it.

Anyhow, I still give them 10 / 10. Great atmosphere, food and service. What more can you ask for?

Upon entering the ambient lighting and decor sets the tone for the dining experience. Dining rooms are split into a front and rear areas. Food and service were great. Recommend making a reservation for timely seating. Neighborhood street parking available near restaurant or you can valet at the front.
