I started my cake hunt for a very special milestone occasion—my mom’s 80th birthday. After reading reviews and checking out their social media, I decided to go with this bakery. Unfortunately, the ordering process wasn’t as smooth as I expected. No one answered the phone listed on the website, and I had to send direct messages before getting a response after a day or two. I assumed they must be busy, given their popularity.
When I finally spoke with someone about my order, the person seemed quite young, but I trusted that she would be experienced enough. I’m not a cake decorator, so I sent photos and described what I was looking for. On the day of pickup, the bakery itself was adorable, which raised my excitement, thinking the cake would be just as charming.
However, there was some confusion about whether I had paid, despite having my receipt. After clearing that up, they showed me the cake, and I was disappointed. While the sides were decorated as I had requested, there was zero effort put into the top. The number ‘80’ was tiny in comparison to the size of the cake. I left feeling disheartened, with no time to express my concerns, and ended up thinking, ‘I need some icing, a piping bag, and a tip.’ Though I’ve never decorated a cake, I felt I could have done better myself.
Pressed for time before the party, I had to make a quick stop at Dollar Tree for candles and sparklers to dress it up. Later, when we finally tasted the cake, the initial flavor was good, but as I ate more, I could taste the burnt bottom. Overall, it felt like no effort or care had been put into the cake, especially given that cakes are such a central part of any celebration.
For $116 for a 10” strawberry cake, I expected much more in terms of both decoration and quality.

Strawberry cupcakes and lemon tasted like a vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing color pink and yellow, both cupcake tasted the same all vanilla, no strawberry or lemon flavor at all. Very disappointed in the taste.

I’m usually completely satisfied with the service and product at Smallcakes. I barely greeted and the young lady working today wasn’t much help. Seemed as if she didn’t want to be there or as if I was bothering her. My boyfriend enjoyed the cupcake for his birthday but I’m not sure how I feel about today besides being disappointed.
5 stars! The cake is decadent and the opposite of dry : buttery and delicious and velvet. My fave is the pink vanilla. Best cupcakes in DFW 4 sure !!

We loved our whole experience of getting our wedding cake!! The tasting was so fun with mini cupcakes … and the cake turned out amazing. We got a million compliments on how tasty it was & it was sooo cute. Exactly what I wanted!!! I will be exclusively getting cakes / cupcakes from here forever! PS the strawberry is unreal.

The cupcakes are PHENOMENAL!! My favorite in the area. They also have a fun photo prop area that the teens I took in there absolutely loved! I’ve never had the ice cream but the big and small cupcakes are delicious and just the right amount of sweet.
We love, Love this Smallcakes.For one of my babyshowers we did the adorable mini cupcakes, which were a huge hit ? I love that they offer the mini variety pack now bc it's perfect to keep my kiddos happy.My personal favorites are the lemon cupcake and chocolate brownie. YUM!We were in last week and the owner was so personable and kind. She gave all the kiddos in the store some free treats, too.Top notch service and desserts!
