The employees are friendly and down to earth. I love most of their veggies. I haven't tried all their meats yet. If you're looking for a good home cooked meal this is the place.

Great food. Can’t tell if this place is open. Approaching 6:30pm in the fall, you can’t really see but a tiny little open sign (left of entry) with no other exterior lights. This is well… South Dallas hence the name of the cafe. Not safe for customers in the parking lot. Not so great customer service. As the business owner I would make sure the customer service was better and that my employees served with a smile rather than someone interrupting their tiktok time. At that, it would attract more people. As well as the exterior lighting. Over all food is good though.

This place just needs to shut its doors. The atmosphere is scary.....no outside lightening, dark and gloomy inside, cafeteria style set up. Food looks like it's been sitting all day and salmonella in a pan. Unfriendly staff and overpriced entrees that are very disappointing to eat. You'd be better off at McDonalds with a Big Mac and fries!!

OxTails-On point, Smothered Pork chops-on point, Corn bread-on point, Service-on point, Black eyed peas-on point. I will visit again the next time in Dallas. Con: no refills (didn't know restaurants still did that)

Came here and $86 dollars was spent. The food is super overpriced and was nasty. Someone I came with ordered a wing combo and was waiting for her food over 15 minutes. When she asked where her food was, they said “oh we aren’t marking any more combos”. Instead of telling her when she was in line, they had her waiting for food that was never coming. To make matters worse, while I was eating, a roach literally crawls on the wall and onto the table. I couldn’t even continue eating and was about to leave. Next thing you know, another roach comes crawling out this place is so disgusting and they are rude. You know places like to sit up and refute comments, so I will include pictures in case they try to lie DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT EAT HERE……. Unless you like to stare at roaches while you eat. 0 stars forget 1!

I've been eating with this family owned establishment since 1991. Their plates are now 16.99 plus. Sides by themselves are 5.00 plus. But when I ordered a side of chicken tetrazini it was 9.99. I don't understand. If the entree with 2 sides is 16.99 and sides are 5 plus each. The math ain't mathing. But prices are not that important if the food is good. I ended up leaving with peach cobbler. It tasted like ingredients were missing and the peaches were hard and crunchy and different colors. The crust was gummy and dry. I prayed I wouldn't get sick cause it was the worst I'd had in awhile. I was so disappointed. Back in June things were somewhat starting to change for the worse. The veggies were not very good. But my turkey wings were. So it's unfortunate but this place is not the same. This restraunt sits in an low income neighborhood also. So, the food could at least be worth the money. I think it's time to close your doors South Dallas Cafe.

My family and I went for the first time on Sunday 11/6 at 4 pm. I ordered a fish and chicken wings only to wait and never received my food. I was told that the combo was unavailable after waiting 15 minutes. The chicken I did receive was greasy and undercooked.Served to me in a container full of grease. My family and I did not receive good service. This place also has roaches . As we were sitting at our booth roaches began to climb from the wall onto our table. This place is the worst ever. I want my moms 80.00 bucks back ! Never will we ever go back!

Half of the rib was all fat. Mac and cheese was watery. The fish was not fresh and they had to give us a new order of fish. The water had a yellow tint to it. The black eyed peas were bland and cold.

Pros: smothered Pork Chops, beef tips, cabbage, and sweet potatoes were good. Most of the staff were friendly.Cons: unseasoned rice, corn lacked flavor, greens just weren't for me. I normally don't make complaints about price but those meals just weren't worth the price. First Lady on line serving could work on her customer service skills.

Omg...everything was delicious. All the veggies were on point. Service was great. Place was packed. Always a sign of great food.

I had the wing and fish combo with black eyed peas and mac and cheese. The wings were not fully plucked not were they fried hard (the batter was gooey). The catfish had that dirty fishy taste, the max and cheese had no flavor but the black eyed peas were flavorful and good. Also, as a restaurant it’s best to offer the menu in its entirety for ppl who are visiting. You should treat every day like you’re getting a new customer.

I use to eat here regularly and now I’d rather cook- not sure what really happened to this place- the fell off!!!! I got oxtails and turkey wings today and they were not tasteful or good at all. My mac n cheese wasn’t homemade or baked, and the greens tasted like they were straight from a can. I love good food and I don’t mind paying; however, I paid $60 for two plates and I literally had to throw it away- never again!

I got the smothered steak and it was chewy and more bone then meat. The dinning area was good. Nobody seem to know the prices for anything. I spent $18 for a bone yams and greens. My husband got the special which was chicken fried steak for almost $8. He was not happy. We drove from fort Worth just to visit them....... Will I go back? No thank you

I love soul food. It’s literally one of the best foods out there . But unfortunately, I’m not impressed. First off , the food should be edible. My opinion, sweet potatoes really doesn’t need extra sugar or cinnamon unless used for a pie. Secondly I thought dressing had celery some type of vegetable. Collard greens are considered good for you , but we drown it salt. It’s not worth the price for a veggie plate. Could be better for sure .

I just left this place attempting to order a vegetable plate. When I got to the cashier, I had to wait until the two ladies finished their conversation and then I was a tab of 14.06. For 3 vegetables and a roll. Not even a drink comes with it! Are you serious. Granted I did not look at the prices. But EVERY WHERE else charges less than $10 for a vegetable plate and you get more vegetables. Especially at lunch time. I left that with the cashier. I see why hardly anyone was in the restaurant. And turn some lights on! Too dark!
