I love how unique our experience was. Every bite was wonderful, by far our favorite omakase experience.

Unbelievable in every way, they made special occasions right, the food was great, and watching the prep was great.

The food was amazing, and the chefs and bartender were very friendly! With the limited seating format and unpretentious service, it felt like we were being served by good friends. From the welcome drinks to dessert then getting to chat with the chefs, we loved the whole experience!

We went here for my 30th birthday and it was to die for! We went on a weeknight and had the whole place to ourselves. We rang the doorbell of the Adolphus room and were welcomed in with an included green tea cocktail and two starter plates. The bartender and two sushi chefs walked us through all of the omakase rolls and each was more delicious than the last. My favorite in particular was the wagyu roll! The experience is pricey, but for a special occasion and the level of attention, it was worth it. Thank you for a fun birthday dinner!

We tried to visit the establishment twice in a row, but on the first day they said that it was by appointment only. The next day, we tried to make a reservation by phone, but no one answered, and it is also impossible to make a reservation using Google.

My reviews typically highlight photos to really get an idea of the ambiance, cuisine, and drinks. However, Sushi by Scratch is so unique and the lighting is not designed for photos - it's designed for people to forget about everything else except the curated experience at an elevated level even from the start as you find the secret door in a regular hotel hallway.... And that's exactly what your time will look like.

Yes, I love high-end sushi as you know from my other reviews and I absolutely give Sushi by Scratch my enthusiastic endorsement - great food, fun experience and unique. It's a small number of people seated with you and everything is tailored to a nice, intimate experience with your staff while enjoying very high quality sushi. So many courses, so much attention to detail in careful presentation with lots of flavor compliments to enhance each bite!

As for the cost? If you just get the dining experience and water, you'll still have a good time but I say splurge a bit - get some cocktails or a pairing flight, pop for the extra courses at the end - have some fun! It's sushi done splendidly!

Tell the GM, Beau Taylor, that Tait says hello :)

Not a very good experience. The host was extremely rude. We arrived 10 mins late due to the vallet was over crowded. The host instructed the chef to not make any more food because we were late. We weren't offer any drinks and when I asked for one. She gave me an attitude "sure" again didn't even offer any of my guess any so I had to share it. We pay good money to be there, there is no need for the attitude. Chefs was very nice but the quality and selections of fish wasn't very special. Flavor wise it seemed like it was very one dimensional. I felt like I was eating the same flavors on different fish. Very disappointed. We were told after due to holiday they did not have their usual selections. I was going to try it again but would have to pass for the poor service at the door. Would not recommend.

Easily the best sushi experience in all of dfw. Can't think of anything remotely close. Impeccable service. Incredible preparation. Some of the best sushi I've had outside of Tokyo. Super well done!

Had an absolutely wonderful time here. The fusion of modern and traditional ingredients and flavors made for an exceptional and unforgettable sushi experience. The staff were all incredibly knowledgeable and the service was immaculate; but simultaneously warm and unpretentious. I can’t wait to come back again.

This place was incredible, they were so kind in catering to my dietary needs and the foie gras sushi...out of this world! I often dream about it. I can't wait to try their other locations, next up Beverly Hills!

My husband and I and another couple we brought enjoyed this amazing tasting experience. We elected to add the sake and caviar pairing with the meal. $900 later we loved absolutely everything but felt it was so fast paced to move in the next "round" of reservations we could barely have a conversation. If you just want to go for the experience and don't mind hundreds of dollars per person, this is it. If you want to share the experience and have minimal conversation with who you bring and don't mind hundreds of dollars per person this is your place. Although we loved it, for about $450/person we won't go back for a two hour experience. It's just too much. Our friends, who only elected for a sake pairing, $700. We were embarrassed we even asked them to come given the bill total for what felt very rushed. Keep in mind, for that time you have no say in what you're eating or drinking. The last course before the dessert was sea urchin. We hate sea urchin. The dessert was small but amazing.

Oddly located within City Hall Bistro of The Adolphus, Sushi by Scratch gives the traditional omakase experience a modern twist of flavor and presentation. The seasoning/topping does compete with the flavor of the fish a bit, but the balance seems to be thoughtfully maintained most of the time. We also tried and enjoyed all the cocktails they had to offer: 'Japanese Old Fashioned' was good, but I'm not too sure if it was $32-good. At least I learned a new recipe and picked up a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain for a few more drinks at home.
