Yesterday, my wife and I decided on SGB for dinner. She got a beef tip plate. With mac and cheese, greens, and cabbage. With a large dressing for sides. The ONLY thing worth a damn were the mac and cheese!! The greens and cabbage were bland as hell. There were absolutely no seasoning in neither of them. Thats a shame. Because usually, its good. But this time, it was terrible. The beef tips were ok. They were kind of on the tough side. And, they gave us way more gravy than tips. I know times are hard for everyone. But she paid $40 for what we got. So some meat is expected, correct? Last, but not least, the dressing. Someone in the back has a heavy hand with the black pepper. We taste more pepper than dressing. I woke up in the middle of the night having to eat three TUMS because it gave me heartburn. Actually, we didnt finish the w meal at all. And we shared the meal. The rest is in the fridge right now. More than likely, we will throw it away. We were very dissapointed in SGB. I remember a few years back. They had a questionnaire that you could fill out. I filled one out back then. Complaining about all of the pepper in the meatloaf. I noticed afterwards that they fixed that problem. Because the meatloaf wasnt peppery afterwards. I think that the owners need to start sampling the food before it goes out. Because it just isint good. Its not worth a damn, not anymore. If theyre going to charge what they do. They need to make sure the food is good. We could have went elsewhere with our money. But we decided to break bread with our own people. Which we try to do often. But few of us are consistant. You may visit one time. And get good, enjoyable food. And you may stop by again later, and its trash. They have done a complete 180. But at the moment, we wont be going back to Sweet Georgia Brown. Its just not worth it. And weve stuck with them for years. We've seen the food go from good to ok. But that slop that we paid $40 for yesterday? We cant continue that. We work too hard for our money. To just be giving it away.

This is soul food from a can. Every vegetable they serve is fresh out of a can. Huge servings but it’s not good food if you’re use to GREAT soul food. I’m from Mississippi, relocated to Dallas and i will NEVER go here again. The food is horrible. I had beef tips over rice, greens, Mac & cheese and cornbread. The best thing i ate was the cornbread, the Mac and cheese was decent, the greens were Glory’s out the can, and the beef tips with rice had an odd vinegar taste to them. The plate was $30 and it went in the trash.

Never had better. Never. Ever. Unbelievable. You can think you've had the best. Until you are here, you haven't. It's a beautiful place, with beautiful people! The pork chops are so good. You could put a chop on your head and your tongue will beat your brain out trying to reach it.

Where do I begin. I’ll do pros and cons. The pros are hefty portions. The cons are their meats are always salty and the sides are bland. The plate itself cost 28 dollars during lunch. I’m super disappointed again. Hadn’t ate here in years and nothing has changed. They still giving out high blood pressure meals….

Large delicious servings! I had the smothered turkey wins with dressing, collard greens, and black eyed peas. My daughter had the veggie platter with Mac & cheese, candied yams, collard greens and cabbage. I got the meals out of my Smothered Turkey dinner. I did not have the add any salt or pepper! The food was so well seasoned! I also had the Sock it to Me cake; can I say yummy! The staff were very friendly and patient! One of the employees stated that I would be back when I said it was my first time! He was most definitely correct! I plan on visiting again soon! Thank you for the very satisfying meal! Michele ME

Sunday Soul Food Worth the Wait

★★★★★ 5/5 Stars

I visited this local gem on a Sunday afternoon and was immediately greeted by a queue stretching out the door. A friendly woman ahead of me cheerfully informed me that we were lucky – the line usually wraps around the entire building! After experiencing what this place has to offer, I completely understand why.

As I write this review while settling into a blissful food coma, I can confidently say this restaurant is a true gem. The atmosphere hits you the moment you walk in: booming gospel music fills the air with as much energy as the incredibly welcoming staff brings to every interaction. Despite being absolutely slammed with customers, the team takes genuine time to answer questions, repeat menu items you might have missed, and ensure you know exactly what you’re ordering.

Speaking of the menu – use your queue time wisely to study it, because the options are wonderfully overwhelming. My dining companion recommended the beef tips with rice and peas, which proved to be solid advice. However, I can personally vouch for the fried chicken with dressing and gravy, as well as the pork ribs – both were exceptional.

The sides deserve special mention. The portions are not just generous, they’re practically meals unto themselves. The sweet potato and yam could easily satisfy as a complete vegan lunch option.

This isn’t a place I’d typically feel compelled to review, but the combination of outstanding soul food, genuinely friendly service, and remarkably reasonable prices for such generous portions demands recognition. The staff’s warmth and the quality of food create an experience that goes well beyond just a meal.

Bottom line: Mark this spot on your must-visit list. Between the exceptional soul food, the hospitality, and the incredible value, this local has earned every bit of its loyal following. Just be prepared to wait – and trust me, it’s absolutely worth it.
