The tea, food, and service were all amazing! The price was honestly a bit much for the amount of food/drink you get, but the experience is what made it worth it. I’m sure I’ll be back!

We happened to dine for afternoon tea on Bastlle Day, so there were a lot specials- tea, blend , caviar, etc. Connie attended to our every need. She even took our picture at the end. She is such a marvelous ambassador for the French Room. She embodies the perfect balance between hospitality and service, and friendly conversationalist. Her suggestions were spot on.
My son treated me to this outing as a belated mother’s Day gift so we’re splurged on all of Connie’s recommendations. The food, atmosphere, tea was all wonderful. Highly recommend and ask your be seated by the window with Connie.

To be clear, this is my first High Tea experience. So I have nothing to compare it to.
A few details to keep in mind, the French Room is INSIDE the Adolphus hotel, smack dab in the middle of downtown Dallas. Be prepared for traffic and some walking if you dont use their valet service.
Now, for the fun stuff.
I went with 3 other Ladies to celebrate our August birthdays.
This experience was classy. It took me a while to figure out WHY it felt so different from another just restaurant lunch.
1. When I walked into the hotel to get direction to the French room, the desk lady was attentive, made eye contact, was friendly, nor was she on her phone. Now to be clear, seeing workers on their phone never really bothered me, we are addicted to them. But there was something so completely professional about the interaction, it left a positive impact.
2. Same thing once I got to the hostess stand. They were attentive, I was greeted by two individuals who were quick to say 'welcome'. They weren't on their phones and were not surrounded by a glob of waitstaff.
3. It is reservation based. They will not seat you till your whole party has arrived and they give you a 15 min grace period from your reservation.
4. This is dress coded. Business casual. Me and my party all wore dresses. It was fun to see everyone else at other tables dressed up also. It helped make such an elegant atmosphere and helped curate the experience. You went seeing anyone in pajamas.
5. The hotel was built in the early 1900s and was absolutely stunning with plenty of sitting and had a moody vibe. The architecture was beautiful and the French room was open, airy, and had beautiful light.
6. The food was yummy. You might be concerned that it won't be enough food. But I couldn't finish my last biscuit because I was so full. So trust me, it is enough.
7. They added candles to our cakes for our birthday!
8. When it came to the tea, we were given two options. Our server seemed well educated about tea, where it came from, what it would pair well with, and if it would taste well with sugar or/and creamer.
9. While we had a main server, all the waitstaff took care of us. I think there was about 5 on duty, and we interacted with each one. From filling our water, tea, or bussing our table. Our glasses were never empty.

I can go on and on and on.
But this was the best dining experience I have had in a LONG time.

I've been to tea rooms all over the world, and the French Room is easily one of my favorites in the States. Not only was the ambiance, menu selection, food execution, and pace of courses noteworthy, we would come back just to be served by our waiter, Carlos. Will absolutely be back in the future.

Connie was the most wonderful experience granter we could have asked for! My birthday tea was absolute perfection all thanks to her glowing attitude and effortless kindness. At 40 years of service, she is an icon at The French Room! You would be lucky to spend a few hours with her any afternoon, and we cannot wait to return.

We enjoyed ourselves very much. Impeccable service, beautiful room. The tea service was a bit different than I'm used to. Typically, other places I've been to let you choose the teas you want served, however, they already preselect the two teas you will be drinking, which I did not like because choosing your tea is part of the fun!! Plus the teas they served are not teas I ever drink (because I do not like them), we would have enjoyed our $200 tea much more if we'd been able to select our own options. Also, I was a tad disappointed that the cream served with the scones was not true clotted cream, the delectable, addictive clotted cream that deserves it's own showcase. Instead, it was served with essentially whipped cream .... such a let down.

Also adding that, other high teas that I've been to, there was more food, so much more that we all came out stuffed... Stuffed for the day

Typically, we select our OWN teas, then the champagne, then tea and scones with jam and CLOTTED cream, more tea as needed, then our tray (which in some cases were 4+ tiers or two separate trays) which in total had 10-12+ items (not counting the scones), starting with savory at the bottom, working your way to sweet at the top.

Here it felt a bit skimpy on the food, especially for the price.

And again, I'd like to stress:
WHERE'S THE CLOTTED CREAM!?!? YOUR MISSING AN **AMAZING** PART OF TEA SERVICE !!!!!
PS: it's not difficult to make, time consuming, yes, simple, 100% ..... If that's to much work for you, whole foods has it! Homemade is better.

Disappointing Experience – Wouldn’t Recommend

We were really looking forward to our dinner at The French Room, especially since it was for a special occasion—our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations from start to finish.

First off, the valet process was confusing. Drop-off was inside the garage, but when we went to pick up the car, it was out in front of the hotel. Nowhere in any email communication—or from the valet attendant—was this mentioned, which led to unnecessary back and forth.

As for the restaurant itself, the service was honestly non-existent. Our server didn’t even introduce herself, which is such a basic courtesy at any level of dining, let alone a fine dining establishment. She never came by to check on us, ask how the food was, or even engage in any kind of hospitality. Yet somehow, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. I wouldn’t have minded that if she had done even the bare minimum, but it really felt like she gave up the moment she knew the tip was guaranteed.

To top it all off, I had noted that this was a surprise dinner for our anniversary—and not once was it acknowledged. No “Happy Anniversary,” no kind gesture, nothing. It felt cold and impersonal from start to finish.

For the price and the reputation, I expected so much more. There are plenty of places in Dallas that understand what hospitality truly means. Save your money and spend it somewhere that values your experience.
