5 stars, but PLEASE stop OVER FILLING your coffee drinks, all the way up to the brim. When I push the straw in, it gushes out, making a mess!
Check your receipts!
Usually love this coffee shop, they have a fun way of incentivizing tips with “Team Mario vs Team Luigi” “Cowboys vs Eagles” so on, baskets that make it easy and cute to tip in cash. Always, when I pay at the window, they hand me the card reader to tap or insert and I get prompted to tip, which I usually decline because I prefer to tip with cash there.
Today I ordered a $3.50 bruschetta egg bite, and instead of handing me the reader, the woman took my card inside to process it. When she gave my card back, I asked for a receipt, and she seemed a little frazzled and turned around. Then a guy came to the window and said something out loud like repeating her, “Oh, she doesn’t want to tip anymore? Ok!” which caught me off guard since I hadn’t been prompted to tip at all.
I asked if a tip had been added, and the woman popped from behind him and said she accidentally added a tip, I asked how much and it was $3, which normally no biggie; whatever! However, I did the quick math on a $3.50 order, that’s an 85.7% tip. I can honestly say I’ve never seen that as a tip prompt option. Before I could say anything again the guy now handling the transaction said it was no big deal and that they refunded it, which I appreciate! But honestly, it felt strange because that $3 tip probably had to be entered manually, it’s not like an easy mistake of a 15%-20% to just “tap.”
Mistakes happen, and they fixed it, but I just wanted to share so others can be aware and double-check their receipts here. It’s a great place otherwise, and I hope they tighten up how they handle payments to avoid confusion in the future.
Edit: still $3 as of april 2025 and prices went up, pay your staff! $9 is not reasonabke to ask for a latte
Last update: I stopped going. You can see from the reviews that they will not fix the tipping system. There is nothing special about this place now which is a shame because it use to be awesome, but has gone downhill. I hope they take the slew of bad reviews over the past year to heart. $3 tip on a $4 coffee is robbery.
Update: now a tiny screen with dark mode which makes it very hard for us with astigmatism to see what we select. Great coffee but so frustrating to order. They also make you download a phone app to order.
Update: 2 months later and still not only defaults to 3, but 3 is on the left where the lowest tip would be. Best drive thru coffee shop but they need to fix this because 50% tip default isn't intuitive.
Updating review: really good coffee, though watch the tip screen, sadly it defaults to $3 for a single coffee or to a % if you add muffins. If you're use to it shpwing less you could inadvertently tip way more than intended espwcially if you are in a hurry.
They discriminate against people who stutter.
I typically love it here, but anytime I ask for light ice they do not fill it up whatsoever. They significantly reduce the amount of drink and I think it is unreasonable and stingey. I love it here typically, but I think this is not appropriate for $6
The worst cappuccino I’ve had in a long time. I ordered a small cappuccino with whole milk. On the menu it says it’s 6oz, but just to make sure I included the word small in my order. Sure enough, it came out as 12oz. I told the worker that I believe this is wrong, I asked for a small and the menu even says it’s 6oz. With a lot of attitude and annoyance, she disappeared and reappeared with a drink in the correct size cup.
The espresso is so hot & taste burned and I’m fairly confident it is not whole milk as there is no creaminess to it. The whole drink so bitter and the service matched it. Very disappointing as it’s rare I spend money on coffee out these days.
White Rock Coffee Douglas & Royal locations do however make fantastic cappuccinos the correct size. Merit Coffee across the street always delivers a quality cappuccino.
I really appreciate the hard work and energy of the employees. However, I did notice that the quality of the coffee wasn’t quite up to par this time. I’m choosing to think it might just have been an off day, as they usually serve really great coffee.
wasnt great, prefer black sheep coffee down the road
Pro-tip: Park and walk up.
Love White Rock Coffee!! There was a misinterpretation of my order at another location and I swung by a few hours later and this location gave me a new one for free. Really kind people & great coffee!

This has been our go-to White Rock Coffee location for many years. We visited this past week and experienced a minor miscommunication. I sent a quick message on their social media page out of curiosity and their response was nothing short of amazing! Almost every interaction I've had with various members of their team (across several locations/drive-thru's) has always been professional, outgoing, and welcoming. Plus, their coffee and pastries are delicious and the new outdoor patio at this location is really nice and functional. The recent interaction with their social media team really solidified the positive aspects of what I had already experienced and knew. I'll gladly and happily support this company when I have great experiences and (especially) if and when I don't, because above all, they listen to and take care of their customers. Thank you, WRC!
Jeremiah and Marie are the best employees at this location. I have been visiting for the past 5 years, and Marie always has a positive attitude. Also, best coffee ever!
Waited 20 minutes in the drive thru and paid over $7 for a “medium” that took me 3 minutes to drink. It was delicious, but over way too soon — it was predominantly ice! So disappointing. I’ve loved WRC since early days and I want to support it, but it costs too much time and money for what I’m getting.
Great place for coffee!!! It's so much better than Starbucks. The staff is friendly and efficient

The person with the “perspective” tattoo is so kind. I don’t know their name but they carry themselves with such a bright positive energy and helped me with my order today! My coffee was excellent, their customer service is excellent.
