My go to whenever I am in Denton

we loved everything about the tejano board, it was perfect! individually the corn salsa, sweet dilly pickles and pimento cheese were perfection alongside the corn bread. the jalapeño cheddar sausage was the star. It’s juicy and flavorful and didn’t overpower when combining with the other elements of the board. i had the tequila smash and a tequila espresso martini to drink while my partner had the opera house and burnt vanilla old fashioned; props to the bartender for fabulous drinks, and our server Faith for her friendly demeanor and beautiful presence. i’ll be dreaming of this place until i return again. 10/10 recommend!

Overall a really great place in Denton. The space is so well done. The staff is nice and the food is good. Went recently after their menu change and enjoyed everything we tried. Just one of those dinners where I left bloated for quite a while and my hands got really puffy which just tells me there was a lot of salt, etc. but enjoyed it nonetheless, I just cook at home a lot and can be sensitive to how food is cooked out (what salt and oils, etc they use). The average person I’m sure wouldn’t notice. But for me, that’s the only downside your visit.Tried the mushroom barley soup - was good, a bit salty … I would’ve preferred a higher mushroom to barley ratio (it was more barley than mushroom) but good flavor. The rye bread crostini with crème fraiche it came with was really good!Split a salad and sandwich. Would definitely be back for the ensalada cesar. Great flavor, light and fresh. Came with Romain, corn, avocado, cornbread croutons, cotija cheese, pickled Fresno chiles, and a cilantro Caesar dressing. Also got the Texan sandwich (pastrami, chopped brisket, pickles, pimento cheese with chips). Really good! Thought the ratio of bread to ingredients inside the sandwich was good. Filled me up fast … the half a sandwich was plenty for me! Good homemade chips. Also enjoyed the tequila smash. I like their menu of smash cocktails, simple but good and a good price.

Food is very good. Service has really deteriorated sadly. Perhaps it’s will improve again but the last few times here have convinced me to give them a break for a while.

I recently visited Barley and Board and was disappointed to find that their new menu fell short of expectations. I ordered a hamburger with chips and was surprised to receive potato chunks instead. Although they were just another form of potato, I was taken aback by the unannounced $4 upcharge on my bill for this substitution that I had not asked for.The service also left much to be desired. For instance, I had to remind a staff member about the drink I ordered as they brought our appetizers, which is not the level of attentiveness I've previously experienced here.Regrettably, I think this may be my last visit to this establishment. The removal of favorites like their excellent Cuban sandwich and high prices do not motivate a return. The overall experience was underwhelming and not aligned with the high standards they once upheld. The only positive was their Italian board, but it's hard to justify spending $38 even on that.

Most of their beer menu was unavailable. The imperial stout they brew has acetaldehyde; it is awful. The amber they brew is a bad IPA. Lights were flickering and they couldn't fix it or turn them off. Food was ok, but way too expensive for the small portions. The Mezze board description says olives, but it doesn't come with olives. Our waiter was good, host staff was a little slow and aloof. Overall, I don't know how this place is in business. Disappointing, not worth going.

Truly a spectacular spot. If I could give more stars to every category I would. The rustic aesthetic was consistent down to the toilet paper holders. The food was beautiful, unique, and delicious. Our waitress Kaitlyn was a delight and expertly juggled us and 4+ other tables while making it look easy. A must go spot for anyone visiting Denton.

The once decent vegetarian and vegan options at Barley & Board are now a thing of the past post-menu change. It was never my favorite place in town. But now that they’ve changed the menu, I don’t think I’ll ever be back. I have been vegetarian for nearly a decade. And I know the city and universities’ vegetarian and vegan options are a big draw for many. So it’s disappointing that the new Barley & Board menu seems to have totally neglected to consider any of us. Now, the only options on the menu without meat are a small grilled cheese with soup and a beat salad.Could I ask for something else without meat? Sure. But our waiter kindly informed me that there is no way in their system to reduce the price of an item. They can only do price add ons. When your pasta is $30 because it includes brisket and I’m asking for it without the brisket, I don’t want to pay full price. The majority of that price if going to come from the meat… So we paid for our drinks and left. The waiter said we were the second table that night to walk for the same reason. I didn’t want to cause a big stink. They were super kind and understanding. So for that, I’m appreciative. Please bring back the cavatappi, the risotto, the gnocchi that I once enjoyed. I’d like to come back one day and give y’all my money. But it’s obvious from the menu change that you aren’t interested in my business.

Where's Waldo?

I have been going to B&B since they opened, and last night was awesome. Lindsey (our server) was polite, paid attention to the details, and always had water and tea refills ready. Jacob (GM) came by and checked on us as well. Very friendly, and genuinely seemed to be concerned that the guests (saw him checking on others) had a great experience. We all shared portions of what we got:1. The Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup2. Chicken Pot Pie3. The Wagyu Sirloin (pic below)All were perfect! For dessert, we had the cookie board with milk. The ONLY 2 things I wish about B&B is:1. Bring back the Pork Tenderloin dish2. Allow for a big marshmallow to be added to the cookie of their choice and add chocolate (like the old oatmeal cookie)Thank you B&B for a great night!
