Upon arrival, on Sunday at noon, no other customers. My 87 yr old mother, my husband and I, are their only dine-in guests for the duration of our visit. I wanted to experience this tortería in person.
Atmosphere is more cozy retail than diner friendly. Several customers came in and picked up prepared tortilla orders to go.
They asked us to order at the counter, I seated my mother, then was about to go to order when the server brought one menu for us all. We were told there are Mexican sodas to pick from, as she pointed to the glass front refrigerator cases.
The good: Barbacoa meat was tender, the plate of cilantro and onion plentiful. Salsa Roja very hot, Salsa Verde mild hot. Forks are substantial and good weight-not the common cheap ones one finds at many eateries. I would have no difficulty making this tortería my source for: homemade flour tortillas and corn tortillas, chips, and hard shells. They might carry Chicharrónes. Piñatas are large and colorful, handmade ladies bead bracelets. There are Mexican colognes, jewelry, leather key chains; and both embroidered and printed shirts and dresses.
Room for improvement: Carnè Asada, Carnè Guisada. Offer sugar-free or zero-sugar drink options, and brewed Sweet Tea and Unsweet Tea.
Water puddle on floor needs immediate attention instead of staff walking by, no slippery floor signage. They did take care of the puddle, after I put the chair on the puddle, and brought it to the attention of two staff members.
I shared the highlights of my findings with the owner before I left, he patiently listened and had a few questions for me. I waited until I spoke to the owner before I posted. I would return for tortillas or something that just had beans, cheese, lettuce and tomato.
