Cupcakes and sweets are good! However a bit overpriced for size. Flavors are pretty standard.

This event brought me back to my first job working at Beasley's Orchard in Indiana. I worked at the Cider Bar filling jugs of apple cider and then tapping the side to get the air bubbles out with a wooden spoon then putting a lid on them. I also made caramel apples using a crockpot. It was a fun job and this reminded me of all those caramel apples I made. Sweet Addictions Bakery owner Paloma and Lisa A Community Manager for Yelp El Paso along with Heather Community Ambassador for Yelp Northwest AR brought us a great event showing us how to make Valentine themed caramel apples.. Those are great! Paloma started her business from a food truck and eventually opened her own brick and mortar store. Yea Paloma! If only I was closer I could try all of her desserts she was talking about. I learned great ideas on what techniques to use as well as what decorations you could use. I'm glad I know about the caramel bits that they sell now in the store. Great tip! Thank you to Paloma and Yelp El Paso and Yelp Northwest AR for a great evening!

Candy Apples with Sweet Addiction "Be My Yelp Valentine" Virtual Event was a big success. Other than the hassle of picking up my kit from Sweet Addiction I loved the event. I had fun preparing the apples with my mother who I was visiting. My mother loved it too. I loved seeing yelpers from all over interested in making this sweet treats. It was cool to get directions on how to make them from a professional. The apples turned up looking beautiful and delicious. I am so grateful for virtual events like this one. Next time I'll personally go pick up the items myself vs paying for the kit even thou the kit was beautiful.

I can't remember the last time I made some caramel apples, this brought back some fun memories! Paloma from Sweet Addiction gave us a little bit of a back story on her business, she makes classic American desserts with a Mexican twist. She guided us through the process of doing our own Caramel Apples with any toppings. Along with caramel she added different kinds of melted chocolate, white, pink to cover up the part that didn't have caramel. Oh man, the ideas you can get for toppings lol sugar overload. But it's on an apple so it's all good! Thank you Paloma for all the great tips, Lisa CA from EL Paso thanks for putting this event together and Heather CA from Northwest Arkansas thanks for Co-Hosting.

Shout outs to Yelp El Paso CM Lisa A. for hosting Be My Yelp Valentine: Candy Apples with Sweet Addiction Bakery. This was a fun event. I had my first candy apple earlier this year but never knew how to make one. Prior to making candy apples, we learned about the history of her business from cupcake food truck to brick and mortar shop. She aims to make classic American dessert with a Mexican twist. For candy apples, you may use any kind of apple variety (e.g., granny smith, gala, honey crisp). Prior to making candy apples, apples should be washed and destemmed. If the apples aren't dry, the caramel won't stick. There are two ways to destem an apple, twist and pull or clip off with kitchen sheers. When placing the stick into the apple, be sure to not pierce through the bottom. If you pierce the bottom, it will cause the apple to oxidize and rot. It is important to get a large enough measuring cup or bowl to melt the package of caramel bits and dip the apples in. It is recommended to use a two-cup measuring cup. If you don't get the Kraft brand of caramel bits, please make sure they are soft and chewy caramels. When melting the caramels, heat in the microwave, add 2 Tbsp water and stir until blend. Keep in mind that caramel is sugar and sugar burns easily. Let the caramel cool a little bit before dipping the apple into the caramel. When caramel is too hot, it will drip down. After dipping apple in caramel, you should use a butter knife to remove caramel from the bottom of the apple to prevent sticking to surfaces. If the caramel starts to harden, reheat the caramel at 20-second intervals. It's not encouraged to add butter as having too much fat will cause the caramel not to harden. When preparing to coat apples in caramel, place a sheet of parchment paper or aluminum foil beneath your apples and spray oil so the apples don't stick to it. Place toppings (e.g., cookie bits, candy, candy bits, chocolate chips, nuts, cereal, etc.,) in shallow bowls to dip in or lay them onto the parchment paper / aluminum foil. to roll in. If there are gaps, grab toppings and place onto caramel dipped apple. Place different colored candy melts in different disposable piping bags and heat each bag for about 30 seconds. Drizzle them onto the apples and garnish with sprinkles. If you would like a spicy flavor to them, you may add powdered chili, powdered chipotle, tajin, or cinnamon. When done with your candy apple creations, set aside to harden. Candy apples should be stored at room temperature, in a cool and dry place away from sunlight and heat. If you store it in the fridge, it will not look as pretty. They have a shelf life of about 2-3 days. If you plan to gift them, you may place them on cupcake liner before placing them in treat bags.

American dessert with a Mexican twist! I have been looking forward to this event and meeting Lisa A, Community Ambassador in El Paso. I had signed up for the event on 12/6/20! Thank you for including me in this sweet V-Day event, Lisa! Although I wasn't able to prepare and get the ingredients together I had fun watching Paloma, owner of Sweet Addiction Bakery in central El Paso, concoct four different types of caramel candied apple and at times going savage... after all, it's your apple and you can do whatever you want! You're the boss of your apple. LoL! My favorite... the Oreo cookie toppings. Sweet Addiction is El Paso's newest addiction. During this pandemic, Sweet Addiction has been closed for walk-ins and only curbside and online orders are available. I think I heard Paloma mention that she will be reopening soon. Thank you to both Community Ambassadors, Lisa A [Yelp El Paso/Las Cruces] and Heather [Yelp Northwest AR] for an evening of fun with Paloma's caramel apples and endless variety of goodies added to the outside and fun flavors drizzled on top. "She's candy apple red with a ski for a wheel And when Santa hits the gas, man, just watch her peel" (The Beach Boys) How much fun was tonight's cooking class with the Sweet Addiction Bakery from El Paso! And what did we make? Glad you asked because we made some outrageously gorgeous and super delicious Candy Apples. El Paso's Yelp Community Ambassador Lisa A and Yelp Northwest Arkansas' Heather did a great job hosting, asking questions and monitoring chat, but the real star of the night was Paloma from Sweet Addiction. She was our personal chef and patiently guided us through the whole process. Thanks to the ingredient list Lisa provided for us, just about all 49 of us had our ingredients assembled. It should be pointed out that the locals were able to buy a nice gift box of the ingredients courtesy of Sweet Addiction. I had all of my ingredients ready to go - a few bags of Kraft Caramels, a bag of red candy melts, 3 medium green apples (properly washed and dried 2 hours before kickoff), a microwave safe measuring cup, some craft sticks, bowls, spoons, chocolate chips, and parchment paper. Under Paloma's guidance, we melted our caramel, impaled our apples with sticks after we de-stemmed them, spun the apples first around the melted caramel and second around chocolate chips (others opted for Oreos, nuts, miscellaneous cookies, candy, etc.). We set them on parchment paper to set before we melted our candy melt to apply a proper finishing drizzle. Mine will never win any beauty awards, but it was a lot of fun to build and yes--it tasted great. Paloma is a very cool bakery that sells "all kinds of fun stuff" including some outrageous candy apples. El Paso is down on the border, so they specialize in sweets that "bridge two cultures". Too bad they don't ship, because I sure would have placed an order to support this cool place. Thank you Paloma, Lisa and Heather for putting together all of the moving parts to make tonight such a rousing success.

Talk about branching out - from a cup cake food truck to sweets galore. It definitely sounds like Sweet Addiction is the place to satisfy a sweet tooth. Tonight's class was on the intricacies of making candy apples. I enjoyed being a spectator. This treat looks fun an easy to make but warns that care needs to be taken. Be careful not to: *burn the caramel *move the stick around after placing *not burn yourself (tongue) with hot caramel *not store in fridge or near heat (best at room temp) It seems that one's own imagination is the limit to the various toppings that you can choose: cereal, candy, cookies, sprinkles, chocolate, white chocolate, etc. The process was fairly straightforward and looks like a great activity to do with family or to prepare for a small gathering or event. Thanks Lisa A. for putting this together and to Sweet Addiction for showing us how its done.

This was such a great event with Sweet Addiction. Making caramel apples is not only fun but allows you to bring out your creativity. It's also a great activity for kids and adults. Making the caramel apples were pretty simple and could be done with ingredients you have in your kitchen. My favorite part was when it was time to top the apples. During the demo, the apples were topped with lots of amazing goodies such as pecans, m&ms, white chocolate chips, Oreos and snickers. It's so much fun because you can really make the apples your own. There's no wrong way to do it. Finally, the apples were topped off with a chocolate drizzle, which was very exciting as I happen to love chocolate. This helps the toppings stay on and also adds some more coverage where the caramel didn't quite make it all the way up the apple. The apples were also really beautiful with a pop of green popping out from behind the caramel and chocolate. This was really a fun event and something that can be done year round. I'm happy I was able to be part of it!

Had a great time learning to made candy apples with Sweet addiction bakery from start to finish! I learned a few new techniques on how to candy coat my apples and why not to store them in the refrigerator for extended periods of time. Gotta watch out you don't burn the Carmel or chocolates though and remember those two things are crazy hot coming out of the microwave. Wish I could try out Sweet Addiction Bakery, might have to make a trip to El Paso Texas in the future to try them out!

This was so so fun! I love caramel apples but have never made my own. I live in North Carolina so I purchased all the ingredients ahead of time since I'm way too far away to get a kit. The caramel bits were a little hard to come by but I was able to get them on Amazon. Everything else I got from our local grocery store and Michaels curbside pickup. The instructions were easy to follow along, and there was plenty of time to decorate 4 apples. It was a fun little date night in and I had my husband help me, although he ended up cleaning a lot because I was making a huge mess haha...but we had a good laugh about it. We enjoyed one of our creations with Reese's peanuts butter cups after the event. It was soooo good! I also loved learning about Sweet Addiction and some of the sweets they make. I have never been to El Paso, but will be sure to make a stop at Sweet Addiction if I ever make it out that way! Thank you Paloma and Yelp for this fun night in!
