What a great place to stay! Such a unique setup.
Great getaway for some rest and relaxation.
What a pleasant surprise! All inns should have this type of checkin: Go in the side door, give your room, and done! The place was eerily quiet (not much happening in Ft Davis at the start of the week), cold AC and a beautiful restored room with original flooring.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to partake of any of the board games or the pool table, ping pong or foosball, but maybe next time!
Place is permanently closed. Google has not been updated.
Old and rustic drug store and hotel. Rooms were clean and the whole building had a nice charm the took me back to an older better time. It was so nice to relax here. It is close to the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, the University of Texas McDonald Observatory, and the scenic loop around the Davis mountains. We very much enjoyed our stay here.
Perfect place to stay while passing through far west texas. Very nice rooms and so close to Marfa and the rest of the beautiful far west texas Landscape. Will absolutely be back and 100% recommend a stay !
Loved the old-time ambiance, squeaky wood floors. The rooms were nicely decorated and spacious. I could see the vision for the downstairs game room/restaurant. I hope the owners are able to finish it.
I’d have given 5* if they were more responsive. We wanted to keep both rooms another night but weren’t able to contact them.
No food is currently served at the Drugstore Hotel but there’s a couple good places nearby. There was a toaster, hot water pot, coffee pot, microwave and fridge in each room. The stairs could be a problem for mobility challenged. Great location.. we went to Marfa and Bid Bend.
Rooms: Very nice, recently updated per the FB page
Nearby activities: Marfa lights, Big Bend, Mahoney salt flats
Food and drinks: Dollar general nearby

Great and unique little hotel. Cute, old-style rooms and connected to a restaurant and game area. We had a little trouble checking in, owner wasn’t the most attentive. Also sort of run down.

I stayed at the drug store years ago when they served food, and you could actually contact the hotel. I had reservations for Black Fri and Saturday nights. Long story short, I injured my ankle Thursday night and emailed the hotel about this and still haven't gotten a response. I've had my card charged, and I am not paying for 2 nights at a hotel I room I never used. I'm done playing. If nobody replies to my emails, I will seek charges for theft of service and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act for not making accommodations since they have no elevator, and I can't walk up stairs.
Noteworthy details: Not worth staying now that they closed the restaurant. They ripped me off for nearly $300 now.
This was an older property, kind of neglected to be sure (checking in is by access code), but also interesting for its character (which you have to look carefully around to appreciate). This was a comfortable stay, with all the needed room amenities, certainly for a reasonable price, and right across from a surprisingly nice restaurant. One big disadvantage: Having to negotiate a very tall, very narrow, exhausting set of stairs to get to the rooms.
Rooms: A bit dated but comfortable, with all the amenities.
Nearby activities: Great restaurant across the street.

went there with a group of friends. We sat in different table. An employee came by and said she'd be right . After several minutes of noticing her attend to other tables , I politely mentioned to her we were ready to order. She said she'd be right back. After several more minutes of waiting, we her bringing out our friends meals. She past by us and ignored us. We timed how long we'd had been waiting there and watching her attend others and it was over an hour and a half. One of our friends walked over and asked if anyone had attended us, we told them no. He called the manager over and told him that we hadn't gotten served. He asked the waitress to attend us and she said she'd be right over. After waiting a few more minutes we decided to leave. My only opinion that we didn't get served and our friends did is because they were WHITE.. Never again will I visit nor recommend anyone to visit Alpine or this little store. They ruined our expectation of a small town hospitality.

I stumbled across this place while considering my trip to Marfa, and I'm glad i did. Fort Davis and the surrounding hills turned out to be the real gem! The place was great, although do beware the ac was not cool the first night and struggled to get cool in time for bed. You may just want to arrive a little earlier if it's the heat of summer. The floors are extra squeaky, but I didn't mind. I liked that our double room was in the back, so we didn't have to hear anyone coming and going. Nice, quiet place. The pthisurism of the magnificent trees in the charming courtyard across the street is lovely (though the food at the restaurant wasn't good, fyi). Beds were super soft and comfy, also! Note, they are kinda high off the ground, though, if you struggle getting in and out of bed at all. Would 100% stay again :)
FYI -they no longer serve food.
