Wow, El Fenix has gone downhill since I've been there last. They have gone from my favorite Mexican restaurant to just average. But just average in DFW is still pretty darn good.

Place smelled like sewage. The waiter acted like we were bothering him. An the hostess was rude and straight up and said she didn't care about the customers that walked out. Because of the smell. Very nasty atmosphere! Food was not great at all and very overpriced for the quality

This is my absolute favorite location. Some of the staff has been working there since I was a little girl and they are the sweetest people and the food is really good. They care about making sure your order is correct even with delivery. They don’t skip out on portions. Everything is hot fresh &consistent One thing that irks me is that DoorDash does not show an option for chips or butter packets.we all know how good elfenix chips are Especially with the butter packets This is the one critique and it might have more to do with DoorDash, but please fix this!

Think Panchos Mexican Buffet. If it was still around widely like it used to be then you should go there because it's 10 times better than this. Plus it is an iall you can eat buffet.
I hadn’t been to El Fenix in about 20 years and remembered it fondly, so I decided to order delivery today since I was just a shopping center away. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to those memories.
The food arrived reasonably quickly, within about 25 minutes, but was shockingly cold—like it had just come out of the refrigerator. The rice, beans, and enchiladas from two different entrees were all at a temperature that made them unappetizing. Beyond that, the food quality was disappointing. The chicken in the sour cream chicken enchiladas was incredibly dry, almost crunchy, and visibly overcooked. The tortilla was also so dry that it was crispy, almost burnt, which is unusual for enchiladas. The rice was flavorless and crunchy, and even the sour cream sauce tasted unpleasantly sour, not in the way it should.
I wish I’d left my memories of El Fenix intact because, unfortunately, this experience has really tainted them. I hope they take steps to improve food quality and delivery standards—it’s not acceptable to serve anyone food that’s cold and poorly prepared. I'm very disappointed!

Had the puffy tacos and they were good after I figured out how to eat them. Kind of like a taco salad.
Service and atmosphere was very good! Very comfortable!

One of the first Mexican Tex-Mex food restaurants in the metroplex. I wasn't born in those years, but I have heard stories from my older family of these places. El Fenix, El Chico, Mexican Inn, and so many other mom and pop places that have come and gone. All have the same basic menu of enchiladas, tacos, burritos, or fajitas. Variations of them but plain and simple food that my grandmother made for our family growing up. Everyone has their favorite dish that can be found at any Mexican food establishment. It's more your preference of taste or seasonings used. El Fenix has continually met standards for so many years. I go for basic cheese and onion enchiladas with rice and beans. Always a satisfying meal for lunch.

My wife and I used to eat here years ago when we were dating and loved it. We went last week and it's not what it used to be. Food was like warm and tortillas were dry and chewy.

It was good, unfortunately I cannot recommend the steak nachos, as they were delicious however there were only 12 chips with a piece a steak on it, not exactly what you'd expect from nachos

Mirta is the absolute best! She is so sweet, attentive, and fast! She got our order correct the 1st time, and then quickly brought us more toppings that we forgot we needed. She came back to check on us several times, which I appreciated! Food tasted wonderful, hot, and fresh, pluse the wait wasn't long at all (we got here at 6:45pm)
Everyone needs to come have dinner and ask for Mirta! She's the best waitress I have had in a long time!
