Very tasty! Chicken-fried steak with a surprisingly light crust and luscious pepper-cream gravy. Cheese burger oozing with cheese out the sides! Fried okra with a crispy crust that is wonderfully satisfying! Gotta try this place next time you are in the Stockyards in Fort Worth.
If the friends we were with hadn't chosen this place as we walked around, we would have definitely passed. Star Cafe is a casual diner with tolerable food and slow, poor service. The burgers and fries were only okay but pricey. The bathrooms are not clean. There are many better options within the Stockyard area; definitely seek them out.
I first came here as a teenager. With the beef being (probably) as fresh as it can be in the Stockyards, it's the best burger I've ever had. Also, it was the first time I had ever had IBC Root Beer. Got to go back after a long time and it's still great. I've only had the burger, so can't recommend anything else.
The Star has always been a go-to when in the Stockyards, but never again. Steak was undercooked and tasted more like a strip cut than a tenderloin. Add-ons were left off, and fries were soggy. Positive note, beer was cold, and the service was good.
There were five of us at the table but only three meals ordered. It took her 20 minutes to come to the table and another hour before we were ready to leave. Very very very slow service! It was lunch hour and the place was full. But I think in an hour and 20 minutes you should visit the table more than three times. I ordered the daily special which was tasty. Those with hamburgers enjoyed them. But if we are back at the stockyards again, we will definitely find someplace else to eat.
It took more than 45 minutes to get our burgers. My burger was well done and dry. Sent the fries back d/t being cold and terrible. Replacements were still terrible-tasted like cardboard. When I told the waitress that, she said “maybe next time get onion rings”. WOW.
When we arrived for Sunday lunch there was one other couple there. We ordered chicken fried steak and a burger. Other tables began arriving, ordered, and three were served before we said forget it, we just want to leave. ONE HOUR was too long to wait. Apparently our order wasn’t put in? Not sure but that’s a one and done, we won’t bother with a second visit.
One of my favorite places to eat in all the Fort Worth. I’ve been eating at the star café for 20+ years and I absolutely love it. I think the chicken fried steak is the best in the state.
Great cheeseburger and sweet tea! Service was great too!
Fast, junk, greasy food.

Stumbled upon this little gem on a busy Saturday afternoon. Fun (but old) decor add to the charm. Wait staff is friendly and colorful with their views on the world. Food portions are generous- everyone had a good meal. Loved the tenderloin tips and onion rings!!!
We were visiting friends and stopped in on our walk around the stockyards at the Star Café. It is a rustic style building. Our waitress was very friendly. Two of our group had the chicken salad, one had the hamburger and the other a chef salad. The food was very good. I also had a cup of the Texas chili. Remember Texas chili has no beans. It was meaty and flavorful.
Want to escape the crowd and have a great meal? This is the place. Our servers were fantastic and funny. Our food was quick, steak cooked perfect, tender and delicious. All for a great price. Highly recommend.
There was a friendly gentleman outside luring potential diners in, and he convinced me. I am so glad I listened to him because that was literally the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had in my life. Food was not overpriced like other restaurants close by. The service was great, the waitress was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Fort Worth.
This is the most average, “ok” place to eat. It’s edible, and it’s ok. Service is ok but not great. Waiters and waitresses were changing there shoes at the table next to us while we were eating. Hopefully they washed their hands. I had the BLT which had real bacon which was nice. My husband had the spicy chicken sandwich and the bun was soggy right when he got it. Not spicy, by the way. Definitely overpriced. The ranch is bomb, though.
