The place is dangerous. You walk in and immediately realize the atmosphere is cooler than you. No sweat, the host is nice and you’re seated then greeted by a nice server. Then you look at a menu. Apps all $12+? This has to me a mistake, you think. Then you see a similar trend on the rest of the menu. Everything seems slightly more than you feel comfortable expecting. Something must be wrong, you think.
It’s not.
Because I’ve been coming to Tavern for like a decade, and I’ve had thoughts like that for as many years, but here’s the truth: I’ve never regretted buying a single food item. Chef’s dishes are all great. Literally everything at Tavern is awesome.
Want to be a grown child eating chicky nuggies? They’re the best in Fort Worth.
Feeling tacos? Ole! They’re the bomb.
Did you walk in wearing a smoking jacket expecting a high end steak? Voila, it appears.

Absolutely fantastic experience! Best grilled chicken sandwich I’ve had in a long time—and the gluten-free bun was a huge plus. My wife’s brisket enchilada was absolutely amazing, and the deviled eggs we had as an appetizer were spot-on. I also have to say, it was one of the best Old Fashioneds I’ve ever had.
We’ll definitely be back every time we’re in Texas visiting!

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a more unfriendly pair of bartenders. Being one of four people at the bar, it took some time to get the attention of one of them to take my order. They seemed more interested in counting bottles behind the bar. And when the food came, I had to wave one of them down to get a napkin. I was never asked how the food was. I was never asked if I wanted another beer. There was no “thank you” or “have a good night” or “come back to see us.” The chicken soup was pretty good. But if you want to be greeted with a friendly smile and a warm hello, you’re better off going to a McDonald’s.

I hoped that management would help and acknowledge the issue,…nothing. No acknowledgement. Disappointing. They could have done better. Especially at this price point.
