Great place with a huge German style bierhall. Decent selection of beers on tap and good selection of German style food.

Order the smorgasbord!!! You won't' regret it. It says that it serves 3-4 and we had 4 large adults and had food leftover. NY & Ribeye Steaks, German Sausages, Pork Ribeye, Mini Pretzels, Crab Cakes, Cheese Dip, Served with Our Steak Sauce Trio, Dijon Mustard, Beer Cheese and Peach Butter. We ended up buying a bottle of the Beer Cheese to take home. The beer was also delicious, but the food was something to really get excited about. Great service, beautiful building, and lovely patio seating.

I had read negative comments about the food and service, BUT we decided to go visit them. We were very lucky that all the Altstadt staff treated us very well, the food was excellent (we ate cheeseburger from the children's menu and chicken stripes) it was very delicious and the service was super fast, I think they were very organized. We were there while there was a live band that completely entertained us and we were delighted with the visit 10/10 five stars

Decent food, food drinks, very slow service. We also ordered two appetizers (one being the pretzel) that NEVER came. All of a sudden our entres were out and we were just shocked like what???? I was VERY MUCH SO looking forward to the pretzel so to be quite frank I was pissed off. But the rest of my party cancelled the appetizers at that point obviously. Mind you, while we were waiting I personally saw AT LEAST 7 other pretzels go out to other tables. So I will not be coming back.

Please do yourself a favor and checkout this place if you are anywhere near Fredericksburg, even if you are not a beer connoisseur. The restaurant menu has quite a few interesting and delicious takes on traditional German cuisine but my absolute favorite is “Das Ruben” sandwich. They also have a tractor museum on premises that will be interesting to both kids and adults.

Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit! Altstadt Brewery in Fredericksburg is an absolute gem, offering an authentic German beer experience in the heart of Texas. The atmosphere transports you straight to Bavaria, with stunning architecture, friendly staff, and a welcoming vibe.

The Hefeweizen was the star of the show—perfectly brewed with notes of banana and clove, refreshing and smooth. You can tell the craftsmanship and passion that goes into every sip. Their attention to detail in both the beer and ambiance makes this a must-visit spot. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their incredible brews. Prost!

The only positive to this restaurant is that their fries taste like long John silvers fries. I would rather suck on a bag of nickels.

TLDR; eat down the street

Maybe the fact that this place had been hyped up to me by many set my expectations too high and is skewing this review a bit, but I was very underwhelmed with it overall. The facility is beautiful and the staff is helpful, but the service was a bit slow–despite it not being very busy–and my food wasn't great. In fact, I generally really like most sausages, and these were subpar. For the price, I absolutely expected something better. The beer options are limited, and the non-beer options are even less. I probably wouldn't go back for the food, but the guy performing live music was decent! I could see how that might be a fun place to relax and listen to live music if you wanted to stay indoors.
