The food was okay, some dishes worked better than others. There are several other German restaurants near by that have better food.

The service was lacking, multiple tables were seated, order, received their food, and left, before we received our entrees.

After about an hour of waiting after we ordered we received our food and were told they were short staffed, I didn't really buy this are we watched as other tables that were seated after us receive the same entree that we ordered.

Additionally we were a party of two and waited about an hour to get our main entrees. In this time our server stopped by our table one time and we had to call someone over from the bar to check on our food.

The atmosphere is nice and intimate, the dining area is quite small but nice. The size of the restaurant added to our frustration as there were only 8 tables in the main dining area and it seemed like we were just forgotten about.

The food is great and made me feel like I was back in Munich, Germany. Would go again if I was ever in the area.

Brunch food was terrific; we had the breakfast schnitzel and spinach artichoke toast. They seemed understaffed in both the kitchen and service floor.

SO good! First time having German food. It was a tie between the duck schnitzel (and I don’t even like duck!) and the petite filet. Our group also got the lamb chop and airline chicken. Extremely challenging to pick a winner!

I hadn’t been to Otto’s in about 4 years so we needed to go back! Fried duck schnitzel was pretty good. A table next to us got the lamb and honestly that looked a little better. I may get the lamb next time. The sauerkraut balls and the flat bread starters were delicious, haven’t had anything like them before. The dessert was kind of weird, the blue cheese and other funky cheese in the cheesecake through us off and the chocolate cake was a little dry. Starters and mains were great. The dessert I would skip for now.

Great time! Thanks!

My evening began with their house flatbread, a deceptively simple starter that set the tone for the evening. Paper-thin and perfectly blistered from the oven, the dough was topped with, aged balsamic, candied bacon, gruyere and microgreens—each bite crisp, airy, and impossibly delicate. It was a masterclass in restraint and balance, where freshness led the way.

Service was quietly elegant—knowledgeable without pretension, warm without intrusion. The atmosphere reflects the food: intimate, stylish, and rooted in authenticity.

Otto’s isn’t just serving food—it’s preserving tradition while pushing boundaries. If Michelin ever casts its gaze further into the Texas Hill Country, this bistro is a shining contender. Until then, it remains a quiet gem—one worth every mile of the journey.

We went two days in a row because the first time we sat at the bar and David was our server/bartender he was awesome very friendly and made us enjoy it so much we wanted to come back. Jennifer served us dinner the next day and she was sweet and very helpful in helping me decide what i wanted to eat that day. Everyone was wonderful and the food was amazing.

We had an excellent meal as a party of 4. The server was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. We started with a bread plate and some mussels. The bread and accoutrements were outstanding and enjoyed by all. The broth in the mussels was rich and well balanced. I had the pork shank as an entree. The meat was perfectly cooked. Easy enough to pull off the bone but not overcooked and dry. The serving size was massive and could easily be split between two folks. We finished with a slice of the cheesecake. I think everyone at the table felt this was the star of the meal. It had the right level of sweetness to compliment the funk of the cheese.

I’ll note that we made the only early reservation that was available on a Friday. It was for 4:00pm. However, the place was no more than a third full for the duration of the meal. It didn’t detract from the experience but was more so a lesson learned.

Duck Schnitzel?
A nice restaurant with good service. We had the Wurst Plate which is the house-made sausage, kartoffelnsalat (potato salad), sauerkraut, senfgurken (German pickles), mustard and the Duck Schnitzel a hand-breaded duck breast, spätzle (German egg noodles), and apple mustard lyonnaise sauce. I am not a big fan of German food. I find it to be too bland for my taste and that was the case with the duck. It was very good, just not flavorful enough for me. The Wurst Plate was surprising. They were spicy. Not hot spicy, but lots of flavor. Have dessert! The Schokoriegel a flourless chocolate torte, white chocolate mousse, kirsch cherries, espresso semifreddo, salted caramel crumble is wonderful!
Over all this is a very good restaurant, especially if you love German food.

Service was great! The food was good. My husband had the duck schnitzel per the recommendation of the waiter and was happy. I had the chicken. The flavors and gravy were great but the meat itself was a little overcooked. So, a little tough and dry but still edible. Overall, a good experience.

We made reservations to celebrate a special occasion. The food was good, but the service was not. Wait staff acted as if we were bothering them. We weren’t told until we ordered that they were out of some key ingredients so there were really very few dinner options. Atmosphere is not at all what you’d expect for the price.
