I hadn't realized that they moved. We stopped in last night to what I thought was a nearby Dive Bar and is now Mudbugs. Live music going, great drink prices. Had a bit to eat. We got the red beans and rice and hush puppies. They did not disappoint! Great time for what we thought was going to be a quick drink at a dive bar. I'm excited that they're here close to the house and I'll go back when we're ready for a meal. I came to give a review and I found that I had reviewed them five stars 3 years ago at their old location. So I'm just updating my review to say, super excited! They're closer to home. Great food. Great service. Great drinks. Great atmosphere. Not nearly as crowded, space wise, as the old location.

We came in expecting the same quality as the original Mudbugs, but this was a mess from start to finish. We ordered étouffée and they brought rice and beans instead — and even that took over 30 minutes. One our main dishes were supposed to be double shrimp, but one plate came with tails, the other without, just the one with tails tasted good. We also ordered charcoal oysters on the shell, and they served them without shells as if we wouldn’t notice. When we sent them back, the excuse was, “We don’t have any, but we will Monday.”
The food was bad, the flavor was off, and the service was just as disappointing. Our waitress kept saying, “Oh my, I’m not sure what the kitchen is doing,” while it took over 40 minutes just to get our main dishes. The experience felt unorganized, careless, and not even close to the original Mudbugs.
We won’t be returning. A total waste of time, money, and patience.

Heard mixed reviews on this place but it looked promising from the outside so we gave it a shot.
Trust the reviews…
We had lots of questions since it’s our first time there and our server seemed put off by our questions. Was hoping the food would be the saving grace but after a 40 minute wait the gumbo came out cold and my garlic toast was burnt. I waited another 20 minutes for my server to come check on us so I could let her know my issues with the food but at that point I was over it and wanted the bill. I left still hungry and now irritated.
After reading the owners responses to bad reviews, lack of professionalism and making excuses instead of listening to customer feedback seems to be the trend I wish I would’ve listened to before making the drive.
I might have to agree with something they said to another patron.
Mudbugs might just not be for me.

Don’t waste your time. First red flag was the place smelled like sewer as soon as we walked in. It was not busy at all; a few people at tables and a couple at the bar. We left after sitting for 30 minutes and our order was never taken. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, which were iced teas. The hostess brought our appetizer, boudin balls, but our server still never came to take our order, so we asked the hostess to check us out. She said our server was in the back and she went and got her. Mind you, it was NOT busy at all. The server brought the ticket and acted completely oblivious that she never took our entree order. We paid for our 3 teas and appetizer and left. If it was busy we could understand the poor service, but there was no excuse in this situation.

Great new location: El Dorado at FM 423 in Little Elm! Authentic menu and reasonable prices. The servers hustle. Spacious! The fried shrimp are how my family on the Gulf make them. Great flavors. A family-owned gem.
Recommended dishes: Bayou Boudin Nachos, Gumbo, Big C's Gumbo, Savory Gator Bites, Sampler, Shrimp Poboy with Fries
Went for lunch ordered the Jambalaya lunch special. Large bowl of Spanish rice dry and had a few pieces of chicken. Terrible. On the upside the staff were excellent and the shiner draft was cold.

Just had a great experience at MudBugs, delicious catfish and red bean dish followed by some of the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Our waitress Stephanie was knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back.

I had high hopes for Mudbugs Bar and Grill, eager for a taste of authentic Louisiana cuisine in Little Elm. Unfortunately, my visit was an exercise in frustration, leaving me with a light wallet and a heavy sense of disappointment.
Service: Slow and Inattentive at best, even with only a few tables occupied.
Food Quality: Salty and Overpriced
The signature dish—the crawfish—was the most egregious failure.
Final Verdict
Mudbugs is vastly overpriced for the subpar quality of both its food and service. If you are looking for genuine, flavorful Cajun food or even just a pleasant dining experience, look elsewhere.

Loved this place when it was located by Chic fil an off stonebrook! This new location I was excited for but I’m not sure why. There were red flags as soon as I walked in. Red flag #1: Now hiring sign and y’all been open for a week. Red flag #2: 5 tables were waiting on food. Red flag #3: Our waiter walked passed us 4 times after giving us our drinks. Red flag #4: We had to stop her while she was going to pass us a 5th time for us to ask her what was going on… Red flag #5: it’s a Friday night. She says they are out of some of their menu options. STAY AWAY. The service is NOT the same. Also, everyone was running around lost and in circles. Tables were complaining and leaving left and right. Maybe y’all weren’t ready to open? There was no structure. Spend your money elsewhere. We left. And won’t be coming back.

IN REPLY TO THE WORLDS MOST UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER.
THANK YOU for taking the time to respond, though I’m still not sure what part of your message was meant to reflect professionalism or actual ownership of the issues at hand. You were so quick to respond defensively that you couldn’t even take a moment to use proper grammar—yeah, that’s very professional of you.
Instead of acknowledging the valid concerns of a customer, the immediate reaction was to deflect, minimize, and gaslight. For someone claiming to be an owner, taking accountability seems to be optional. That isn’t leadership—that’s exactly how businesses fail.
If a “re-open after a week” is your excuse for poor service, lack of communication, and running out of basic menu items, that speaks volumes. And trust me, places with that mindset tend to become case studies for what not to do in customer service. I’m sure local restaurant news would be more than interested in how customer feedback is handled here, especially since people rely on those reports to decide where to spend their money. The BBB would also love a detailed description of this entire interaction.
I’ll make sure others are aware before choosing to dine at this establishment.
Good day—and sincerely, please consider another profession if accountability and customer care are this challenging.
