The braised short rib is the best I've had anywhere!
#EPIC - When I tell you EVERYTHING about this place was amazing! We had the most memorable night stumbling upon this place after a nice, quiet dinner at J. Theodore.
It took us a bit to find the passcode, because we didn’t realize initially that it was a book title and not a numeric code. You pick up the phone, it rings, and you ask the librarian for the book—pretty cool concept and maintains a certain traditional charm. However, the vibes and service were anything but traditional!
We had a BALL despite running into some weirdo with his friends on the way in who acted like he was could keep up us out by not sharing the password. I hope that guy had a miserable time watching us have the time of our lives. Ironically, we were seated right in front of them. I love the way things fall into place exactly how they’re supposed to. Hi hater! 🤣🤣
Our server was Maylani, and she was super cool and attentive. She brought Quinn over when my husband began asking about whiskey recommendations. When I tell you that Quinn was THE MAN! The way he talked to us about the Japanese whiskeys and even told us simple cocktail recipes we could make at home, we could immediately tell he was a master at his craft. Between the two, they took great care of us and we had some good discussion and many laughs throughout the night. So much so, that I’m pretty sure we were the last patrons to leave.
The drink menu was EXTENSIVE and well-curated, and I’m sure they share a kitchen with J. Theodore, so you know the food is good.
All the cocktails were expertly crafted, and that Brown Sugar Bourbon Espresso Martini was strong and DELECTABLE! It was perfect because I hate vodka, but I love the flavors of an espresso martini. This was much better!
Will definitely be back!

Great lil speak easy! I enjoyed the ambiance, drinks and people! Great little place if you want to to be out of the bigger picture. The live music was on point.

Wonderful place. Used to be more of a hidden gem but I suppose the word is out! Cute themed speakeasy. Their facebook page has the book of the week (which is the password for entry). It’s very small but they pack people in. Be prepared to sit uncomfortably close to strangers. 😆 That doesn’t bother me at all but it might be a dealbreaker for a first date or a private conversation. Great music on the weekends. Cozy upscale vibes, but no privacy, so best to save an important discussion for another place unless you don’t mind people overhearing. Must try the Smokey old fashioned and the chocolate Kahlúa cake! Huge pieces!

I was excited to check out this place, thought it was more of a social setting. I knew of J. Theodore, and enjoy their food, and we thought this was more of a bar scene to go after dinner.
When we got there we realized it was just a dimly lit restaurant, not to go and mingle and have a nightcap, so we ended up ordering food and made the best of it.
The food was good, nothing to write home about. We opted for taking desserts to go and was told if we wanted to add ice-cream we could for an additional $3. He specified it was 2 scoops of ice-cream for the $3. The brownie ($5) I wanted was out so he suggested the praline and I figured, sure why not.
When I got the bill I realized the dessert (praline brownie + ice-cream ) was $15 in total and it felt ridiculously expensive and was thrown off at him not mentioning that the praline was twice as expensive as the brownie I originally wanted.
However, I didn't want to make a big deal and just paid, but it definitely left me with a bad impression.
When I got home and opened the ice-cream container there was less than half a scoop of ice-cream which felt like the cherry on the top of the sundae of a very disappointing experience. Big let down from start to finish.

If you’re going there to try rare bourbons, they’re out of half the things on their menu and it’s extremely overpriced. Many better options in DFW
Great drinks, good portions and great flavor.
The love music 7/31/2025 was great.
The Cake is is must.

Absolutely the most perfect date night spot! J. Theodore is known for its espresso martini, but Rare Books has to be known for its grown-up, speakeasy vibes! My date and I truly had an amazing time in this dark grownup club!

This might now be my favorite Speakeasy that’s I’ve been too. The phone booth and password of their latest recommended novel make this place intriguing and unique. The atmosphere inside is even better and the bar tender and clientele add to the fun with create conversation and unique cocktails. Try something smoky. You won’t be disappointed. And if you’re hungry, the lobster bowl is especially delicious. Enjoy and cheers 😉😊🍸

One word...awesome!!
INSANE. Jesus was amazing! Everything he recommended was so delicious. Drinks were so well crafted I got the Tea Blossom Sunrise and it was the best drink I’ve had in a WHILE. Food was amazing 💯 the Shrimp Diablo blew my mind I ordered it extra spicy and it did not disappoint!! Sauce was GLOSSY and perfectly coated the pasta 🤤 INCREDIBLY FLAVORFUL. Will be back 💕
Came here to celebrate a birthday and we had a blast. The password for the phone booth was a little difficult to figure out. The day of our dinner we went onto their social media accounts and were a little confused that the date we were planning to visit wasn’t listed on the new password post. So we weren’t sure whether to use the new one for future dates or an old one.
Jesus (hopefully spelled his name right) was incredible. He was attentive and even took the time after our dinner to take pictures as well as walk items for us back to our vehicle. This guy deserves some major recognition and saved the night after we couldn’t eat the cake we had brought as well. Thank you Jesus for excellent service.
Other than the service, the food and drinks were great and we loved everything we got. We were a little disappointed with the atmosphere. We expected more books along the walls given the name of the restaurant. Other than that it was a fun experience!
