To preface, my entire lifelong career has been spent in the professional food service industry.
This was a good experience until the resort owners showed up with their dog ten minutes after our arrival. I understand ownership has its perks. But it is never okay to allow your dog and toddler run amuck around the restaurant and resort floors. And it’s even less okay to see a food service manager having to go get their loose dog to carry it back to the family multiple times. Not only is this highly against food handler rules and obligations of said food handlers, it’s against the law. And it’s obviously expectant of the owners that food managers babysit their child and dog. The entitlement was astounding. The shame ought to be huge, but I doubt there is any. It’s very likely this is normal behavior for them.
At the conclusion of our lunch, I spoke with the dog/baby sitter manager. When I brought this to her attention, she confirmed my suspicion that they were the owners of the resort. Wasn’t hard to figure out by their entitlement. She was apologetic. However, when I also pointed out that she never even washed her hands after carrying the filthy dog, her response was somewhat gross.
“But I haven’t touched anything!”
Will the health inspector accept that? NO!
And neither should any customer of that restaurant or resort.
The owners of the resort/restaurant should truly reevaluate their own behavior in their place of business. This isn’t appropriate in any way.
Owners and management should be extremely embarrassed by their behavior. And from the sound of it, that behavior won’t change. And likewise, neither will their entitlement.
Owners deserves an F-
Management deserves an F
Server deserves an A
Food quality deserves an A
Edit: and the potpourri aromatics through the resort is pretty gross too.

When the owners of the resort and restaurant think it's appropriate to have the restaurant manager chase their unleashed dog around the restaurant and carrying it back to the table with their toddler, I immediately know their standards of cleanliness are far below the minimum standard. The restaurant manager never washed her hands after picking up the dog several times either. When I called her out for this behavior, her exact words were "but I haven't touched anything!" Imagine what it is like behind the scenes if they behave this way in front of diners and guests of the resort. This is grossly negligent. The staff, especially the management and the owners of this resort need to go take a simple class at their health department to know how to not be disgusting. We will never come back to this resort or its restaurants.

This place is fancy schmancy but the food is pretty bleh. Had the chicken and waffles and there just wasn’t much taste. The whiskey infused syrup tasted a lot like syrup and the honey something butter tasted a lot like butter. They even described the blackberries which turned out to be two. Overall, food was fine but quite expensive. Atmosphere is lovely. Don’t think we will be coming back.

Can’t speak to the food because we didn’t stay. We had reservations, walked in perfectly fine. You do have to pay for valet parking tho. My main issue is the overwhelming potpourri smell permeating through the entire hotel and restaurant. If you miss the way your grandmas house smelt 20 years ago this is the place for you! It was so strong my nose and eyes were watering after only 5 minutes. I can’t imagine eating and smelling that the entire time. Last time I checked you should be able to smell the food, not potpourri! Your sense of smell is incredibly important when it comes to tasting food, give your chef a fighting chance and turn off that potpourri. I’m going to spend almost $50 a person if I can’t smell or enjoy the dining experience.

This was our third time staying at this hotel and for some reason we went back to Blakes Bistro despite having terrible experiences the past 2 times. The food is good, the kitchen and service need a make over. We were seated along with 2 other couples. Took 10 minutes to get a water/drink order. Chips and salsa took 20 minutes. Entree's took an additional 40 minutes. Mind you there were only 3 tables being served at this time. We all had similar experiences. When we come back to the San Luis Resort, the bistro won't be receiving our business again.

We had dinner at this restaurant during our stay at the San Luis and it was fantastic. Our meals not only presented well but also tasted great. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was also excellent. They have a senior menu that provides a three course meal for $25.00 per person. We had a wonderful meal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are looking forward to our next visit.

My friend and I decided to take advantage of the Senior Dinner they have every night from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. It was $25 per person for a 3 course meal. Food was fine. My friend ordered the salmon and she said it was delicious. The dessert options were blueberry cobbler and bread pudding. The cobbler was like a muffin with a slab of blueberry in the middle. Being from the south we were shocked at this semblance of blueberry cobbler. The bread pudding was ok. We had a few bites of each and thought both needed a lot of improvement. Other than that probably worth the $25 per person but definitely not exceptional. We expected a better dinner knowing that it was in a 4 star hotel, The San Luis Hotel and Resort. Also we had lunch a few days earlier and my friend ordered the chicken tacos. She specifically asked for no spice. She got a very spicy taco and when she mentioned it to the waiter the manager came over and offered to substitute it but it took so long to get our lunch we did not want to wait any longer as we had plans. My friend had a few bites of the chicken but left everything else. The manager refused to take it off our ticket. That was a bit disappointing. I had the fish tacos and they were very good.
Decided to have lunch at Blake's Bistro even though we were not staying in the hotel. The service was wonderful and the food was good. Unfortunately the kitchen seemed to have been very backed up and we waited over 30 minutes for two sandwiches. Not a terrible experience overall and will give it a second try when in town again.

As I was out sightseeing on Galveston I found Blake’s. It’s in the San Luis resort which is a really nice place. But don’t let that stop you from trying it out. The burger meal that I got was only $20. Less than I thought it would be for such a nice place.
I also walked around the pool and discovered they were making complementary s’mores. SCORE!

The service was very slow despite restaurant not being busy. We were later told it was due to the owner's parents being there for dinner. When our food did arrive it was cold. The veggie option was the same tired zucchini-heavy medley default. Disappointing.
Our waiter was amazing and very attentive especially on a Holiday weekend. We toured the San Luis Resort and it will 100% be our next destination. Beautiful pool, beautiful hotel and very nice staff.
I had asked for an omelette made with “3” ingredients and the waiter got it wrong ?
