We recently had the pleasure of eating here while in town to lay my moms remains to rest as she was a Gatesville born and raised native. The food was phenomenal along with the staff's hospitality.
Catfish was breaded as my mom would've made when I grew up, simply delicious.
The brisket was full of flavor and to be frank , it was better than Terry Black's in Waco that we grabbed on the way back to DFW and way cheaper.
We were going to stop by Bare Bones once more on Wed. for another meal, but sadly we missed closing early by 15mins..
Value & Quality was more than acceptable for a family run establishment.

Delish bbq. We got brisket, smoked turkey, sausage and a burger. Very filling and true to Texas bbq taste. Everything was fresh. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Loved the rustic feel of the place. Though it’s rustic, it was nice and clean. We’ll definitely try it again when we’re out towards Gatesville in the future.

I stopped here for lunch. On my way from Abilene to Houston and it was great place to stop. Relax do some sales call notes have a good lunch. Great service tasty barbecue nice quiet atmosphere during the day.

Ordered ribs and a brisket sandwich. The ribs had little seasoning and even less smoke flavor and they were definitely finished in the oven. Ordered a sliced and got a chopped handed to me. They must've used the leftover trimmings because it was full of fat and gristle. They had a band playing outside and it pretty much was obnoxious because the sound overtook everything. Gatesville needs better bbq places especially for the money we spent. Way overpriced.

We had the pleasure of enjoying this place with our family, and it was fantastic from start to finish. The owner was incredibly kind and generous, making us feel truly welcome. The food was delicious, flavorful, fresh, and perfect for sharing. It's a great spot for families, especially with kids. Warm, friendly atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend!

Can't say enough about Bare Bones. Food was absolutely delicious. Service, beyond expectations. It was a clean and enjoyable venue. We're planning on returning. Have to say the Brisket was excellent and the Chicken Fried Brisket was outstanding!

Came from out of town to buy a vehicle and we were looking for some comfort food to fill our bellies after a long day. We really enjoyed their brisket sandwich. Very attentive, friendly staff too.

Where to start… The chicken plate was $12. Not a bad price, but was plain as boiled chicken. Not a single spice was tasted on this chicken. It was cooked well though, but not on a grill as there was no smoke ring. Juicy and cooked completely. The sides I ordered were Cole slaw and macaroni and cheese. The Cole slaw is plain. The veg was fresh though. The macaroni and cheese is basically milk and noodles. Although the noodles were cooked perfectly. My companion ordered a kids burger off the kids menu for $10. The hamburger patty was small as it was supposed to be, but the bun was huge and it was swimming in pickles for some reason. There were no sides for the burger even though the cashier said it came with sides and my companion ordered tater tots. And the ice machine was broken so we had to dig in a cooler for ice. Unsanitary. Also the table hadn’t seen a rag since the dinner several times before us and there was dried bean juice on the table. The dining room itself is spacious and homey, but not clean. Owner wasn’t there so couldn’t address the unsatisfactory meal. I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody with a taste for barbecue, as this is mediocre at best.

This place is a hot or miss when It comes to good, fresh foods. I have been here twice and the first time all of the meats & sides where so good and fresh so I decided to go back a couple of weeks later & man let me tell ya, that meat was not freshly made, It had a old taste and was a bit on the hard side and when I called up there to let them know, the young lady was arguing the fact that there’s no way they’d sell leftover food & It must be my taste then asked If I recently had covid 🤦🏻♀️ REDICULOUS considering the price of the food, I would’ve taken it back up there but I wasn’t given that option so the trash bin got It. Not good customer service at all. I haven’t been back since and have found another awesome BBQ place in town to give my money to!
