Food was ok, but this review is for the “complementary valet” that they offer- the guy that parks your car for you gets upset when you don’t give generous tips! Just a heads up! Went with a couple of coworkers during HRW and since we weren’t aware that parking was gonna be valet before pulling up, I decided to split the cash I had so they could also tip the valet guy and not feel bad! Well the guy was not happy with the tips he received from us that he had the nerve to say something! It makes the place look bad IMO!

The food was as expected and I love the dark castle atmosphere. However, the tables are pretty close together and caused the place to be very loud. So, not recommended if you’re looking for a quiet experience.

PRO'S: Ambrosia Restaurant was a first visit for Houston Restaurant Week. We had outstanding table service for the visit.CON'S: Unfortunately average food and not updated online menu items for wine left us unimpressed.SUMMARY: With thousands of dining places to try in Houston we don't expect Ambrosia will be revisited.

Handmade naan tasted like brick dusted with curry powder. Kebobs were severely undercooked. The bottled wine was the only thing that tasted as it should.

Their HRW menu tasted like microwaved food. We're pretty sure it was store bought donut holes and croissants they reheated in the microwave and store bought frozen Belgium waffles. And the mimosas were flat because they left them sitting out in a big pitcher. Not worth the money. But the service was really good and friendly.
A last minute decision to head into town, we decided to try Ambrosia for the first time. It's in a pretty cool little building, that has the feel of the old Houston home that it used to be. The small, dimly lit dining room offers the chance for a great atmosphere, but uncomfortable metal chairs and bouncing acoustics work against what could be a quiet, romantic vibe. Like the atmosphere, food here aims at eclectic, Asian-inspired dishes but execution and flavor miss the mark just enough to disappoint. From the artwork to the menu, there's much here that could be great, but it's just not. A simple iceberg salad was dressed with a serrano vinaigrette so spicy that I couldn't eat it. Edamame hummus was accompanied by small strips of doughy, flavorless "naan-" nothing like the crispy-bottom, garlic speckled disk that fantastic naan should be. The shrimp dish was a clear winner of the night, swimming in a tangy, red curry sauce with hints of coconut milk, lime and cumin, it was really delicious, but also a small serving for the price. Fried rice was good, and a giant portion but the dish had a distinct sweetness, like sugar. Course after course, each promised a new chance at greatness, and fell short. We enjoyed exploring the imported wood carvings, 800-year old door and artwork throughout the tiny restaurant, but with so many spots to choose from, i don't think we'll be back.
I went for a Monday night extended happy hour and I couldn't have been happier. The place was fairly empty which was nice because it was quiet and easy to have a conversation. The service was awesome, super friendly. Timely with the food and behind the bar.

Got there and were told there was no table for us. Showed them the reservation and got a table after waiting for 20 mins. There were not enough chairs for our group so we had to look around to find chairs. The staff didn't get us any water after waiting for another 15 minutes. Finally, we saw them serving two groups who came to the restaurant after we did (without any reservations). At this stage, we decided to leave without ordering and go somewhere else. We were polite the whole time there and our group included 5 adults and one infant.

Ambrosia has a great atmosphere and ambience. The food is top grade. We tried the chicken fried rice and the roasted shrimp and both were very tasty and palatable. The waitress was very friendly and helped us sort through the drinks menu and helped us choose some popular drinks.
Parking: there is a valet/free parking lot available adjacent to the restaurant.
We had the four-course Restaurant Week menu for $55. Most of the portions felt small and the meat on the kabobs was very chewy. The rest was ok, but felt pricey given the portions. Maybe a bigger three-course would be better. Other than food, service was great and the room was a little dark.
My life-partner and I met an Ambrosia 9 years ago. I remember it was swanky and beautiful, and the cocktails and food were great. We went this past weekend again to celebrate our anniversary and to our surprise the place has aged badly. The food was ok, and the drinks which just to be great tasted now like cough syrup. The servers looked like they were not well put-together. Nothing wrong, with that, but if you are going to charge $17 - $20 per drink you have to make sure the service is comisserate with this prices. Those drink prices are the same as the Proper hotel "la Piscina" restaurant, just for reference. Sad to see such a former great place slide in disrepair.

Kid-friendliness: The kids like the lamb lollipops. Highly recommend
We found Ambrosia many years ago, and have always thought of it as a great place for tapas that also allows for having a conversation with friends. True to form, food was great, service staff was excellent (not to obstrusive, but also able to get us to order instead of only spending the entire night talking), and the ambience was perfect for conversation among friends.
