I have been to Anvil many times but always on a Sunday or Monday, but never been there on a Saturday, and let me tell you that it is a different animal on Saturdays ..... much much busier of course, but the age group changes completely ..... half of the folks there are around 25 if not younger .... while on Sundays or Mondays it is a different cup of tea all together.
The cocktails are tasty and diverse, the bartenders provide good service. My only complaint is the god-awful acoustics of this building: you basically have to YELL to hear each other talk. I've been to plenty of busy bars in Houston, but this one is the worst when it comes to volume. The bricks, multiple windows, and concrete floor are sound reflective, which amplifies the volume of a packed and tiny building. If management added more materials that help with sound absorption...
