Barcena's Mexican Restaurant #2

I have been coming to this location for about six years now. The food and drinks have always been pretty good. The price is what always kept us coming back. It’s no secret that this place definitely needs some remodeling. It is in a very rough area and it looks just as rough on the inside, in my opinion, I have been in here countless times when the AC has not been working in the summer and that definitely has been frustrating. Tonight me and my daughter went and she ordered the child’s plate ground beef tacos, and I ordered a combination plate, which is what we have usually ordered in the past. She ate her rice and beans, but she said that the ground beef had a funny smell and taste to it, I tried my ground beef taco, and it also tasted funky. It was extremely greasy, and had an almost chemical taste to it, if that makes sense. I also had a chicken tostado and it was very dry, almost tasted like tuna. The rice and beans were great. The salsa was good and warm. The service was good, there was one waiter, and she was responsible for half the restaurant, there were 3 other people just standing around looking at her, and they would come and help her when needed. When I received my ticket I was charged for an additional drink, I brought it to her attention and she took it off and apologized. Oh and on top of everything their prices have went up significantly by $2-$6 (not worth it in my opinion.) When I went to check out my total was $39.23, I paid with a $50 bill so I should have received $10.77 back in change. when I went to go pay the lady was on her phone, and it took her a minute to look up an address me, when she handed me my change, she only gave me $10 back, i then asked her where was the rest of my change, she looked confused, and had to call my waiter over, she didn’t even say sorry she just opened the drawer and handed me 3 quarters. Again, I should have been given back $.77, but at this point, I was over it, and I just left. Unfortunately, I’ve had a similar experience the past 2–3 times here, so me and my family will not be returning here. I may try the other locations down the road, but this one is definitely off the list for me.

Good place to eat. I would rate the food 8 out of 10 but I also understand that everyone has there own taste. I would recommend.

Their ground beef (enchiladas/taco) was very bland and actually made the items taste bad, but the cheese enchiladas are excellent!

My husband enjoyed his meal. Basic food. Waitresses was friendly but slow and unapologetic. I had to get up and ask for help. Twice!Not worth coming back. Did not feel welcomed at all.

Incredible detailed atmosphere. The food is pretty good and they are very attentive when serving guests. The buffalo wings are a great appetizer. Love the margaritas.

Paid too much for a quesadilla, is it because the airport is close by , location ? I mean it’s a rough side of town as it is . It doesn’t cost a lot to make a quesadilla and have to pay your overhead especially on a takeout.

Friendly waiter and slow service. Enchiladas Verdes chicken not shredded but diced and chewy. Beans and rice had no flavor/spices. Salsa the same, no heat.

We have been here often and everything I order is delicious. I love the atmosphere and the service is excellent. The other day I ordered the chicken soup and it was so good I had to go home and try to make some. Thank you Barcenas. My family appreciates you.

I ordered the grill chicken. It didn't tasted grilled and was a little dry. Not much seasoning for a Mexican Restaurant. A little disappointed. The Margareta's was very good.

Parking: Good parking at that time of day.

Food is delicious and the staff is super nice. Only a tiny complaint is their ac, it always feels warm in there.

Had such a great birthday dinner last night here. Staff was so friendly to accommodate our large party. We will be back for sure.

Horribly slow, an hour and a half to get food. Never got my drink, went to get it myself atb the bar and still auto charged gratuity.....but it was Cinco De Mayo so it was a packed house

My husband took me here a few weeks ago and I enjoyed the food and service so much that I suggested my sister to have her birthday dinner here….which she did and it was a total success!!! Everyone had a wonderful time. The happy hour margaritas were so good and my cousins couldn’t stop raving about the nachos! My husband ordered the carnitas plate and he was so pleased with it, that he vowed to try and duplicate the recipe at home! Lol, my sister really enjoyed herself and a large part of that had to do with the OUTSTANDING service we received. I can’t remember his name, be he had blue hair and he was our sever in the past…..he’s EXCEPTIONAL!!! He handled her entire dinner party by himself (roughly 18 people) and he didn’t break a sweat! He got every order correct and every bill correct. We’ll definitely be going back for the delicious food and amazing service!!
