Boomtown Coffee at the Understory is truly one of the brightest parts of my Houston routine.
Anytime I’m downtown—whether I’m settling in for a long work session, fellowshipping with people in the shared space, or even playing bingo on Tuesday afternoons—Boomtown is the spot that consistently lifts my spirits. It’s not just the coffee (which is always top-tier), but the energy, the people, the warmth, and the way the staff makes you feel seen.
I want to highlight Lupita in particular. I hope I’m spelling her name correctly, because she deserves to be recognized. She carries herself with such kindness and genuine warmth that even on tough days, she somehow finds a way to brighten my mood. There have been moments when I walked into the Understory feeling heavy, tired, or mentally drained—and the simple act of ordering coffee from her shifted my entire day. Her smile is infectious, her spirit is uplifting, and she always meets you with joy and intention.
And it’s not just her. The whole Boomtown team embodies the same energy. They’re consistently friendly, present, and willing to make sure you’re taken care of. They don’t just serve coffee—they create a feeling. A little reset in the middle of downtown. A moment of peace before you dive back into your work. A reminder that kindness still exists in everyday places.
Boomtown has become a grounding part of my Understory experience. When I’m typing away on my laptop, catching my breath between tasks, or flowing in the creative zone, it just feels right having a cup from Boomtown next to me. Their presence adds to the vibe of the entire space.

It's a small coffee shop downtown with a simple menu. It's a bit hard to find for the first time since it's in the underground tunnels.
If you have trouble finding it, you can gain access to it at the Bank of America Tower on the side of Milam St.

This is NOT a Specialty Coffee place. Subpar taste and no latte art.

Tried this place out since I’ve heard about it’s got a caramel latte. I wasn’t impressed with the flavor. I didn’t taste much caramel. And it cost 7 dollars so to me it’s not worth the price. I hate to say it but Starbucks has better coffee and that’s saying a lot.

Nice coffee spot in the underground. They know how to pull a shot of espresso and how to froth your milk the way it should be. Not unbelievably hot.
