This place is in a sketchy area but the food is on point. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and I like that the chicken was tender with a crispy batter. Can't complain. They even gave me a free soda, spring roll and fried rice. The portions are big and all for $9,00 including tax.

D Wok Express – A Hidden Gem on Blalock That’s Been a Lifelong Favorite

As a lifelong resident of Houston, specifically in the Spring Branch area, I’ve had the privilege of watching neighborhoods grow and change — but one place that’s remained consistent in both quality and heart is D Wok Express on Blalock Road. This humble, hole-in-the-wall spot has been a quiet cornerstone of my takeout traditions, late-night cravings, and reliable comfort food for as long as I can remember.

Let’s talk about the food — it’s always fresh, piping hot, and made with care. You’ll never get a bland or under-seasoned bite here. The General Tso’s chicken is a crispy, saucy masterpiece with just the right kick, and the fried rice is always fluffy and never greasy. Egg rolls are crisp, golden, and filled to the brim, not that overly air-filled nonsense you get at some chain places. And if you’re in the mood for something warm and healing, the wonton soup hits the spot every time. Every dish feels like it was made with you specifically in mind.

But what really sets D Wok apart — what truly elevates it — is the hostess, owner, chef, and all-around powerhouse who runs the show. She’s a one-woman band, and honestly, one of the most impressive people I’ve ever seen in action. She takes your order, cooks every dish herself, packages it with precision, and does it all with the kind of grace and hustle that makes you respect the craft even more. Despite working solo, she never sacrifices quality, and somehow still manages to greet you with a smile and warm energy that makes you feel like family.

There’s something so wholesome about walking into D Wok Express. The space is simple but always clean, organized, and efficient. There’s a quiet kind of pride in the way it’s run — the attention to detail, from how each order is bagged to the consistency of flavor, speaks volumes. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of place where the food and kindness speak for themselves.

In a world of rushed service and cut corners, D Wok Express reminds you what genuine hospitality looks like. It’s no wonder I keep coming back — time and time again. Whether I’m stopping in after a long day or picking up dinner for my family, I know I can count on a consistently great meal and a kind word from a hostess who treats her work like a calling.

To anyone who hasn’t tried this place yet — do yourself a favor. Support a local business that truly deserves your time, your appetite, and your respect.

Food was fresh, cheese puffs were hot and crispy, eggrolls were fresh, soup was warm and comforting. Atmosphere was cozy and intimate, all booth seating.

Horrible customer service. The lady is rude & nasty. After 2.5 years of passing by this place, I decided to stop. I called to place an order & I couldn't hear well. My husband wanted a certain item. I asked about it & she kept saying I don't know what you want. So, I told her I wanted something else & I thought she said it came with a drink. She YELLED that she didn't say that. At this point she sounded extremely agitated. I said let me allow you to talk to someone else. I'll let you speak to my husband. The lady YELLED I don't care if you go somewhere else. I said ma'am, that is not what I said & without cursing her out or getting loud I proceeded to tell her about herself & she hung up in my face. That was my first time and last time attempting to eat their food.

If you like those hidden, “hole in the wall” type of places; this is the place for you. With small dinning area and to go option, how could you go wrong? Large selection for lunch & dinner options. There’s even a kids menu. Vegetarians included. With a kind welcome and gracious service, I love to support the small business owners and will come back to try the different options.

Downsides: one working restroom (men’s), max occupancy seems to be around 20-25 max. Decor is dark and outdated. More of the neighborhood Asian restaurant and not a “must go out of the way to try.” FYI: when ordering the Thai plate, your dish will be covered in a “Thai powder seasoning” which overpowered the dish in my opinion.

The Chinese is very rude, they don't give what you ask for, the less they give outside, it's not the same service, very bad.

Omg the food here was amazing. Best believe I will be back. I loved the long cozy dining room and peaceful environment. I had the shrimp platter today, but the Mongolian Beef I had the other day was also on point.
