This is one of the top ten Best Hispanic under rated restaurants in Houston. Real Authentic price is not crazy expensive and yes it's all hand made you can taste it in every bite. On top of that the dessert tamales phenomenal. So soft yet goey inside with pieces of fruit. The masa was like nothing I've ever had it was an actual dessert. When you order a meal here you get a bowl of Frijoles before your meal. Yesterday two people under 30 bucks left happy and full.

El Hidalguense is amazing! We’ve been regulars for years, and the food always delivers. The handmade tortillas are next-level and totally worth every penny.
The only surprise this time was the aguas frescas. Don’t get me wrong—they’re tasty and refreshing—but at almost $8 a cup, they feel more like a luxury than a casual drink. Two came out to $16, which is the same price as some of their entrées. Out of our $71 total, that part still stings a little.
We’ll definitely keep coming back, but next time we might just share one drink or stick with water. Still, El Hidalguense is one of those spots we’ll always love, it’s just good to know the aguas frescas are now more of a treat-yourself splurge.

Cabrito and barbacoa are not easy to make and the love and time that it takes shows so let's see how it goes!!!
First off!! My husband said "Está solo!!" Which means "empty spot" for us lol but I said nahhhh let's give it a try!! It's good that it's not packed lol so we can enjoy. We could see the lady "server" from the window getting ready with menus for us so that was very nice to see she was paying attention!!
We ordered drinks: horchata and Mexican coke and OMG the horchata is on point! Just enough cinnamon and the rice flavor is amazing!!! Homemade for sure!!!!
We asked for the queso fundido and chorizo as appetizer! Very creamy and cheesy!!! Chorizo is savory and the salsa they bring at the beginning with 2 flautas is super super spicy but delicious so try it out!!
Homemade tortillas is a must!!!! Very thick and perfect size and flavor!!!!
Waiting on the charola for 2 which comes with cabrito, barbacoa, flautas, consomé and refried beans and yummm nopales!!! We wanted to try both out so the lady advices to get this!!! Can't wait!!!
