Fat Cat Creamery

I really, really want to like this place due to its convenience, LGBT friendly, and the high reviews from others. However, I have been twice now (months apart) and both experiences have been poor. The first time I ordered the Mexican vanilla, one would think this would be a safe bet. I found that the flavor was subtle and the milk tasted off. I gaslit myself into thinking surely this is just an off batch or something. I returned again this evening and ordered the King Cake and yet again I felt like the taste was off, like the milk was sour? I wish I could have the great experience that others have shared but I haven’t yet. The poor taste plus the high price for a small serving size is not helping me want to return. The staff has always been very friendly however.

EDIT: after seeing Fat Cat’s reply I will definitely not be returning… the other reviews pointing out the poor customer service seem to be true. If a customer thinks your ice cream tastes like sour milk you would think they want to take steps to address this as this might have been a bad batch. I will gladly go to Jeni’s ice cream just down the street from now on for AMAZING vanilla ice cream 😂

I went to Fat Cat Creamery in the Stomping Grounds of Houston, which is a great little development and currently the only ice cream spot in that area. Fat Cat Creamery is a woman-owned, Houston-based ice cream company that started in 2011 after the founders couldn’t find good craft ice cream in the city. They make small-batch ice cream completely from scratch using Texas whole milk, heavy cream, egg yolks, and locally sourced ingredients, and they also emphasize environmentally friendly, compostable packaging.

The ice cream itself is clearly high quality, with unique and well-executed flavors. That said, I am very particular about ice cream texture and prefer a harder, more frozen style that you can really bite into. Fat Cat’s ice cream is very soft and melty, which just isn’t my personal preference.

Overall, Fat Cat Creamery is doing something right and clearly has a strong following, especially if you like softer, creamier ice cream. I appreciate their presence in Stomping Grounds and the quality of ingredients, but the texture keeps this from being a favorite for me.

Stopped by tonight for a quick taste test ended up walking out with their new flavor ! Loved it ! Sweet lady and gentleman working the register/taking my order really made the experience great ! Helped me decide on what to get. Great establishment.

Good ice cream and customer service

Just moved to the area and had to stop by to get some ice cream at this perfect little hole in the wall! My boyfriend and I never even knew this whole place existed! We love it! Leilani was so awesome!! She helped us choose and honestly was the star personality in the whole place. Everyone else seemed to not want to be alive but Leilani brought such a great atmosphere!! We will be back often!!

Stopped in to get some amazing, fresh ice cream after a delicious lunch. Never disappointed when it comes to Fat Cat Creamery. They always have amazing flavors and the tastes are intense. I had the Hard-core Chocolate and Peanut butter banana!!!

False advertising on their website as they state they serve soft serve ice cream so we drove over 25 minutes to find out they don’t. When I questioned the staff member about why it’s stated on their website she couldn’t care less and rolled her eyes and had a nasty attitude with us the whole time. 0/5 experience. Update your website.
