Flying Idlies is a hidden gem for home style South Indian food. Quiet, family friendly, and family owned, it offers comforting dishes with a slight twist that breaks the routine. The Pongal is the best in the neighborhood, and the fiery idly and magic idly are absolute favorites. A great spot for a relaxed, wholesome meal.

Food:
We tried the following items at Flying Idlis:
- Fiery idly
- Yummy idly
- Pesaratu
- Mysore masala dosa

The idlis and dosas were good. Do note that they only provide peanut chutney.

The sambar was very bad the day we ate.

Cleanliness:
Not very clean. The trash needs to be taken out from the trash cans more regularly. The tables weren't very clean either. The place was also full of construction materials like floor boards etc. overall, the place wasn't as clean as it should have been.

Very poor place. When we entered - of course during the normal operating hours, none of the tables were clean. Each table had food spilled on and under. Despite of no guests there, it took few mins for the owners/employees to realize that they need to clean the tables. So we had to wait until they clean the tables. After placing the order, the food came on time - the only positive. We were told that sambar is not good today, and were still served sambar. Chutneys did not have any taste or flavor. I went with normal expectations, but was severely disappointed. I do not recommend this place.

The food at this Indian restaurant was good-fresh, hot, and overall I’d rate it around an 7/10. The flavors were enjoyable and the dishes came out quickly.

However, what really stood out was the cleanliness of the place. The tables were dirty, the chairs were turned around, and the floor clearly needed attention. I understand they had a busy morning, but when we walked in, several staff members were just sitting and watching TV during their break. A little more attention to the general upkeep would have made the experience much better.

The ambiance and cleanliness definitely need improvement. Bathrooms definitely needed attention

Flying Idlis is one of the best restaurants in Houston for authentic South Indian cuisine. The sambar, in particular, was incredibly delicious. The owners are a kind and welcoming couple who make you feel right at home. Highly recommend this place!

This place is terrible! We visited for the first time and ordered idli , rava dosa. The food wasn't fresh, and the taste was awful. The dosa was undercooked, resembling wet flour rather than a crispy delicacy. The chutney was also unpalatable. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
