It's as close to an original barrio meat market from the early Northside of Houston. The barbacoa and cheek are amazing; I'll go on a limb and say they're the best in Houston! The owner is a wonderful, kind woman that always welcomes every customer with a warm greeting. It's a must-try for your weekend lounging, foodies!
Best barbacoa I drive an hour just to eat here š
The carnitas were dry and hard. No taste

Located off of Patton street a little bit north of downtown Houston is Gerardoās. S/o to the home @richotoole for tweeting this place out bc it sure caught my attention. Parking is a dirt lot with everyone taking the mamalona out after church so good luck lol.
We figured out the parking and walk in to the joint. It looks like an old warehouse and thereās some seating and an empty cooler with drinks. We get in line and itās your classic weekend crowd (this place is open Fri Sat Sun). You got the old folk, the young (clearly hungover people) and the people in church clothes.
We finally get to order and I donāt know if they speak English. Granted itās been open since 1977 but why ever bother in English cuando se habla espaƱol.
You can order by the taco or do it traditional Mexican style and order by the pound and you put it in the middle of the table. I wouldāve done that but since Iāve never been here and I wasnāt sure what Bae wanted I just did tacos.
Barbacoa Taco 8/10 - everything youāre looking for here. That tenderness, shreds easily, cheek meat.
Cabeza Taco 8.4/10 - I always tell people that cow head tacos are the creme de la creme. If you see it, order it. This is banging.
I understand why this has been open since 1977. This is Mexico in Houston and if you want some real food swing by. This isnāt a chips and salsa place. There isnāt āfajitasā. Big truss.

The restaurant is too expensive for what it is. 4 Dollars per Taco plus one dollar extra if you want salsa. (No other restaurant or taco truck does this) The tortillas are not even hand made, the interior of the restaurant looks like a taqueria from the 60's ...And if you want to take out ...a pound of barbacoa is right under 18 Dollars. The exterior has uneven sidewalks and parking.

Their barbacoa is the best in town! Made from steamed cow head, not out of a rump roast!

I been coming here for years. BEST Barbacoa de Cachete & Lengua in Northside and in H-town hands down.
Not the best. The menudo had an awful smell and had a brownish color. Iāve had better carnitas and barbacoa at other places
