I've long heard that Hu's Cooking is the place to go for quality Chinese food in the inner loop, and my first visit there last weekend met all expectations. The food was well plated and good portioned, which matched the premium menu prices in comparison to other Chinese restaurants. We ordered three dishes for two people, and it made for a good balanced meal. The spicy chicken was a surprising twist of Sichuan flavors with popcorn chicken like texture. Seeing that the menu featured Sichuan spices and multiple peppers, I was initially worried that the spice levels might go over my tolerance, but luckily the dishes were made less mild than the typical Sichuan restaurants to cater to the diverse customer base in inner loop. Highly recommend Hu's Cooking for anyone new to Sichuan cuisine to ease into the flavors.
The reason for the one star short of five is due to the limited parking space and the ceiling in the restaurant showing signs of aging (i.e. visible insulation and missing covers).
Overall, I found dining at Hu's Cooking to be a pleasant experience. The service was great, and the staff speak both Chinese and English fluently. We outstayed our meal up till the time they closed for the afternoon, and the servers still respected our space until we finished our meal and conversations and naturally got up to leave. Definitely a nice touch to the experience and well appreciated. I will be back again, and I have my eyes on trying the famous Mapo Tofu next time.

DO NOT order the Nanjing Old Duck Soup 💢
Tiny portion, awful taste. The duck is minced to the point it’s like bones, no pickled cabbage at all—just sour bamboo shoots and a strong stench. This photo is how it was served, not leftovers. It was so bad we wouldn’t take a single bite. I asked the server and they said “that’s how it’s supposed to be.” For $20, they might as well have served me hot water—at least that’s drinkable.

The food is amazing! My favs included the chilled cucumber salad, egg drop soup, and sesame chicken! The added bonuses included the incredible service and BYOB. The portions are huge and can be shared!

This place was incredibly busy on a Friday night! Good sign In my eyes, the prices are good for what it is but be careful you could honestly share the portions.
The flavor of the food was worth every penny, $2 for a can of coke isn't my forte but there could be worse things to complain about. Ill come back here during my stay in houston for sure.

This place was recommended by a local friend. Therefore I had some high expectation for it beforehand. The dishes we ordered including the bean jelly and deep fried string beans were a bit too salty. The steamed bass has a bit of a fishy smell despite of a lot of green onion slices around it. Duck’s blood and beef tripe in spicy soup 毛血旺 is reasonably good, meeting expectation. Restroom is clean enough.
