This udon place now becomes my favorite spot around Houston. I would say they have the best udon soup that I ever have before. But the weird thing that I don’t like about this place is they will charge your money when you ask for chili oil.

I went right before the lunch rush on Sunday and didn't have to wait for a table. The Tonkotsu Curry Rice was good, but the cutlet didn't have any flavor. The curry tasted the same as what I had in Japan, so it's definitely an authentic flavor. There was a shaker of spice on the table that enhanced the flavor a lot. I was a little intrigued by how the kimchi was served in a little plastic container, but it had a delicious flavor and a good texture. No fountain drinks here, just canned sodas. I'll be coming back to try the other dishes on the menu too.

I am so happy I found a Japanese restaurant that makes udon! I ordered a chilled mentai udon and it reminded me of when I enjoyed udon in Asia. The noodles tasted really high quality to me. The flavors from other dishes (ordered by the people with me) are diverse but not overwhelming. The non-noodle dishes (chicken karrage, agedashi tofu, raw octopus) were also very good. I would DEFINITELY come back another time.

This is a perfect experience and felt cozy because it is smaller than other gigantic Houston eateries. My family and I happen to stop by on a weekend day, mid afternoon, so no one was out and about eating at 3:30. It’s perfectly close to Chinatown and Bellaire and the Korean eateries and everything, but just behind the main area so it’s quieter. There’s plenty of parking and it’s a small smaller strip mall. It could be a little sketch, but that’s the entire area really. We had Tan Tan udon, Curry Tonkatsu udon, squash, tempura, and a few other things, and raw squid, please see pics. Our server was perfect.
The temperature of the tonkatsu and the curry were very hot. Piping hot and the noodles and flavors were all on spot.

Curry udon is amazing, and cold udon is great too. But i wish there is more non-deep fried veggies topping options.

Very good food. Very good service. The cleanliness of the tables could use a little work. I used to work food service so I understand sometimes mistakes can be made. Whoever cleans the tables needs to clean in between the boards of the table. Other than that, everything here is amazing.

Small seating area by Houston’s standard. Very crowded if you are waiting for your seat. Nice food and simple menu to choose from . Staff was really very friendly. No complaints.

The food is good, but the service is terrible, almost no attention at all besides dropping the food on the table. The restaurant is also dirty. Hygiene standards seriously need improvement.

Great food, friendly servers, good prices. Restrooms (mens) could use some maintenance, but not dirty and was functional. Great overall experience.
Came here for dinner and got the Tan Tan and Niki Niku Udon. Broth was Rich and flavorful and udon tasted fresh. Broth was a bit salty. Overall I would come back whenever I crave udon

I've been going to Ishin Udon for years now and I've never had a problem with the food, but it just so happens that today there was a piece of hair in my soup. I told the server and the manager barely gave us an apology. They didn't even give us a discount, extra side dish, nor any other form of compensation. I still tipped but I'm greatly disappointed in the lack of effort towards appeasing the customer for something that was faulting on their part. If this is how management is gonna treat a dish-gone-wrong, then I'm not sure if I'd like to dine here anymore.
