We went for the Chef's Tasting Menu. There were some hits and misses. The beans, bread, rice ball, and spaghetti were very good. The scallops and lamb were nothing special. The dessert was also a miss. The portions were very small for $75 per person.
Poor from the start. Slow, small drinks. Bartender never came back or offered water. Bread was burnt. Oysters were in a tasteless salty watery liquid. Pasta came out cold and was over powered by lemon. Had to stand to get service 3 times. Auto added 20% tip and a 3%+ charge for credit card. Avoid.
The dining room was reservation only for chef's tasting menu. We've visited Loca Doro multiple times and this was definitely a change. I didn't mind trying the chef's testing menu at all. However, at the price point it was at, plus the mandatory tip and credit card charge, we felt the value was really lacking for how expensive the bill was. Not all the dishes hit the mark, although most were pretty good. The limon spaghetti was the stand out dish of the night. The scallop ceviche was so underwhelming and had a fishy taste to it. A friend in our party requested an alternative to scallop as he did not like shellfish. They ended up giving him radish as an alternative, which felt really lacking in effort and value. While we were there for 2 hours, the dining room only had 4 tables filled (including ours), and this was for dinner service on a Friday evening. I am used to Loca Dora being completely packed on Friday evenings. I think they should really rethink the whole setup of dining room reserved for chef's tasting menu only. Overall, I like the a la carte menu at Loca Doro way more that I would return for that and pass on the tasting menu in the future.
Excellent dinner with my sweetie at the bar (a la carte menu). Wonderful as usual! Roasted olives, Little Gem Salad, Polpette (these meatballs are truly delicious) and the Hiramasa flamed over the fire, beautiful char and flavor bomb). Great martinis, margaritas (they make their own orange liqueur!) and the solid wine list make this a lovely spot — we love it here and will be back. Staff and management are truly top shelf, in every way. Thanks for a great evening.
L'Oco D'Oro continues to be my favorite restaurant in Austin. The food is excellent and interesting. The service is always warm and welcoming. Can't recommend it highly enough!
Terrible service. Sat at the bar on a quiet night. Felt rushed. Bartender seemed lost in describing menu/wine, had almost no social skills. Had only a few bites of my app, sips of wine before my hot entree arrived. I told them to bring it back to the kitchen to keep warm and they seemed surprised. Bartender/waiter tried to take my wine/app before I had finished. I canceled the rest of my order and left. Wait staff obviously is lacking in service 101 skills. Salad didn't have much flavor, drowning in a thick sauce, potatoes desperately needed salt.
My wife & I came for our 4th anniversary and it was an awesome experience! The food was terrific, we got the focaccia as an app, then two pastas and shared both, followed by dessert. Our favorite was the mushroom & olive pasta dish (can't recall the name), it was very well done! We had the tiramisu for dessert which was extremely competitive with some of the best I've had. They also had good mocktails which my pregnant wife enjoyed. Service & presentation was also terrific. Will be returning!
Love the menu here. It is SO good --not cluttered with too many items. Very nice Italian-focused wine list and a nice selection of wines by the glass. Pre-concert (Santana and Counting Crows at Moody) on a Sunday afternoon/early evening, and just excellent all around. Not our first time here, and we don't hesitate to recommend it. We sat at the bar (we usually do) which is nice because the bartender is wonderful (busier nights they have two), very professional and friendly, and you can see your food being prepared too, and occasionally have a nice little chat with the cooks while they are working. Just relax and enjoy your evening. It's easy to do here.
Pappardelle was amazing, had a great server as well. Mozzarella with the jam was an interesting combo on my tastebuds but one that I didn't mind too heavily. All in all, great birthday meal!

This place is a gem! Host noticed I had a card in my hand and asked if we were celebrating something and transferred my response to our server who immediately wished my son a happy birthday when he first walked up to our table and brought a birthday treat at the end of the meal! Fresh Farm to Table menu was SO GOOD!
I've been to L'Oca d'Oro several times and have always left happy. The risk and reward is that the menu is new every season. Risk: sometimes you're just not vibing with the options. Reward: sometimes you discover amazing flavor and texture combinations. This last visit was definitely an example of risk - I wasn't vibing with the summer '24 menu. Maybe I'll try again in the fall. :)
A very unique, phenomenal restaurant. The service is top notch and all of the food cooked with top quality ingredients with exceptional flavors. Again, the menu is very unique and the flavors are amazing. This restaurant rivals some of the finest restaurants in Austin. Thank you very much.
Our server was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. The food was top notch. The cocktails were creative and refreshing. The wine list was perfect. Decor was on point. Great neighborhood spot. We had a great time and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
Been here a number of times and really enjoyed it, tonight not so much. Irritated with the pre-set gratuity and additional charge to use a credit card. What restaurant charges extra to use a credit card?
